What civilization is most strongest?
This is very old, and childish discussion, yes I know.
But the game is very s***s now, to forgot that, just for fun :)
Let's go back to the eary 2000s...

I didn't play AOE:FE, so my recent AOEII was 1.0c version.
Think about Mongol. Their hunting bonus was amzaing, so able to reach the feudal age the fastest time. In my blurred memory, Mongol could reach the 2nd age less than 10 minutes game time by only hunting animals without gathering berries.
That is not only their strongest time, but also in the castle age, cuz of 'the ultimate' Mangudai.
Fast moving siege weapons are just bonus :-p

How about you? I'm glad to share old memories of the original AOE II : Conqueror.
(Asumming - Hun, Korean, Teuton...)

There is no overall best civ.

It depends on enemy civ, map type, is it 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4? What tactic do you want to use? What civs do your allies have and do they synergise with yours?

The most 'flexible' one though is Spanish as far as I know as they can pretty much research and build anything, and can upgrade everything at the blacksmith for no gold, meaning they can easily go into multiple tech trees.

Gotta love the Vikings tho! :D
Elite Longboat in the water and Berserker with regeneration on land. <3
Aye Mongol is my favorite and most played civ as well. Not only is 50% faster hunting amazing but the +2 LoS on scout cav means you also find your boar/sheep faster, can scout the enemy's base faster. And the unique unit/tech are among the more useful ones.

My 2nd/3rd picks are probably tied between Hun/Mayan.

It depends on the type of map. There is alot of stuff to take into account.
I see the Byzantines, Britons, Mongols, and Goths the most

Huns. Not having to worry about houses is fantastic.

This. I get pop blocked all the time so I love huns. :D

I think Huns, Mongols and maybe Aztecs. Also Vikings for water maps.

In a RM match, I would say celts insane siege, very fast infantry forces enemy retreat, in DM I'd say Byzantines or Goths Byzantines would be smart to wall off their base and make a huge army of cataphracts/archers/siege goths swarm champions/huskarls/siege from forward base, in Team RM, I'd say mongol/Celts Woad Raiders/Cav archers/ Rams, in team DM Goths/Huns Gothic rush by land is insane since they spawn extremely quick, huns can spam cav archers/paladins/siege on the back of that

I hate facing the Byzantines the most. I'm not great playing them either, but Byzantine players drive me nuts.

Mongols

* Archer Cav
* Siege weapons move +50% faster <- OP

Persians duh!
25% work rate? it's like having 25% more economy/villagers then anyone! And they have paladins, hand canonners, full atk and cav armor forge, and of course, 600+hp eliphants with 20 aoe damage.
Also they start with +50 food and wood out of nothing... And their towncenters and docks have double hit points. The team bonus is great too. Knights +2 atk vs archers means 3 hits only
WinterWar 18 apr, 2013 @ 6:02
Turks.

Massed janissary and bombard cannons with +2 range/25% HP are almost unstopable. In team games you can usually savely wall and rush castle/imperial where they shine.

As this thread has demonstrated, people have their preferences and most civs have a case to argue on most maps. One of the great aspects of this game is the balance.

Obviously Huns / Mongols (referring to History).
