When you run low on gold
During most of my online battles so far I have run really low on gold about 50 mins in. People say use the market but when the price becomes 19 I find it useless to keep using it. What can I do to counter me spending a lot of gold or should I have no shame in a Pike Scout army late game?

And use carts if you have an ally.

Yeah prefer pike-scout-skirmisher army as much as possible and save your gold for trebuchets(or other siege).

If you control the majority of the maps gold it's much more likely that you're going to win. Set up a few town centers near key gold points when you get to Castle Age and it'll make your job easier later on. Of course, try to get relics/trade carts when you can as well.

yep end games like this turn into trash fights. This is why I love playing mongols, calvary archers can't be hit once u get an army of them, and mongols get scout bonuses.

Or, sell off your excess stock earlier in the game before the price of it drops. Once it hits 14 or so it'll never really bounce back unless a resource is completely gone (e.g. all the wood/stone on the map is used up) and there's still a need for that resource. Early on it starts at 100 and often peaks quite soon as people need that which they are short of at the beginning. Sell then, keep it as gold, you can always "buy back" the food/wood/stone later at a much cheaper price if necessary.

But, yeah, the best technique is steal all the gold, have lots of trade carts with allies, capture all the relics, etc. Notice that they rely on allies or on fighting others, though.

Tradecarts, relics? And upgrade to hussar, elite skirmischers and halbediers which don't cost gold. But as long as you have gold, go for gold-heavy units because they are much better.

Nothing wrong with 300 hussars running around

1 v 1s shouldnt last more then 50 mins.
In team games you have trade carts. With lots of them itsb hard to run out of gold.
Also you may want to consider a less gold reliant civ.

Relics were the sweet deal. Play as Mayans if you want resources to last longer, which can make a large difference, too. But, carts are of particular interest now, especially with the larger pop cap. Maintain an army of around 150 quality units and an economy of solid food and wood collectors and the rest carts.
