How will you prevent cheating?

Hi,
i am an ex aoe and aoe2 player. The times spent on zone.com are one of the best memories of my gaming life (on voobly not so much ;) ). Therefore when i saw that this HD Edition will be available on Steam, i was delighted. But I am also a little bit concerned. I would like to know, how do you plan to get ahead of cheating?

Unless Microsoft are going to implement their own cheating system. I would go with VAC. PunkBuster is useless.

Important thing is to prevent cheating months after release as well with regular patches.

im pretty sure you only get banned from "secure" mult-player games. single player and unsecured multi-player is still available to the banned.

They havent announced what anti-cheat they are using.

I am thinking cheating wont be too rampant since pirates wont be able to play here. Having to actually buy the game will stop a lot of cheaters dead in their tracks.

i expected to see some well founded answers, but all i read was speculation. let's hope that they really can prevent cheating

It's essentially impossible to ever guarantee anything will completely prevent cheating. We're doing a few neat tricks with Steam that should help cut down on the tampering but I've yet to see a game where people haven't found some way to circumvent the intended play - and that's not to mention the fact we're encouraging user generated content through the workshop. Obviously I hope the work we've done will help keep things clean, but I can't go into detail about it since it's Steam tech.

On a somewhat related note, I highly suggest recording your games - that'll make it much easier for us to document people who are abusing the title. As always, we'll be monitoring the game after release.

this game doesnt run on vac servers, it doesent even run on any servers.
