Berries / Fishing / Farms
I'm refreshing my skills, haven't played in a LONG time. I've forgotten the harvest rates. Which is fastest via villager? Berries, Farms, or Shore Fish? Thanks!

Shore fish are far swifter, but berries are convenient so you'll want a few villagers on berries. Farm are slow and very expensive, you should only make them when you begin to run out of boar/sheep.

Are farms equal to berries or slower?

berries are very slow, fishtraps also.
first use the animals, than farms, later if you have time, berries.

You usually start with sheep which collect rather fast (0.330 f/s,0.408 when Britons ), then you get your boars because they have a huge amount of food and collect really fast (0.408 f/s, 0.610 f/s when Mongols), once you got the boar you get your berries as well because they're a steady reliable food source (0.310 f/s, 0.388 when Franks in AoF) and finally you turn to farms which have a lower work rate (0.319 f/s) and cost wood but are reliable and take little micromanagement. If at any point you have easy access to nearby deer or shore fish go for them as well. Hunting is the second fastest (deer are also 0.408 f/s, 0.610 f/s when Mongols) and shore fish the fastest food source (0.426 f/s).

My prefered: Hunting (sheep/deer/boar) > farms > shore fish > berries
But the facts may be different (as seen above).

Note that shore fish is only fast if you gather it with villagers it's a lot slower with fishing ships. For fishing ships it's best to get all fish that isn't shore fish. I don't know the exact numbers but deep sea fish gathers a lot faster than shore fish. Also fish traps gather so slow that It's only worth considering if you have A LOT of idle fishing ships after all natural fish is gathered.

It seems that everyone agrees that Berries are slower than farms, but then why do many professional players go for berries before they start farmi- oh. No wood. Silly me!
Thank you to everyone who posted! :) :csgoa:+

Shorefishing is the fastest gather rate for food. They usually involve walking time though, so boar in your TC is faster. If you see 2-3 shorefish close together, mill them. 1 shorefish is worth a mill if Japanese (cheaper than farm and gathers much faster).

On land map you should always go berries, usually have only 4, build Mill close touching the berries in a central spot so the Mill touches as many bushes as possible ......IF you can micro the vills so they are always as close to the Mill/Bushes, thus they don't walk uncessesary far.

Else if you can't micro the berry vills, then build Mill 1 tile away from berries, so vills doesn't end up on the opposite side of the "berry wall", ending up walking easily 4 tiles and more.

My standard opening for FC is:
- 6 on sheep
- 4 Wood
- 1 hunt piggy
- 3 berries
- 1 hunt 2nd piggy
- 1 berry
- 3 farms
- 2nd LC

..if I'm Flushing it's quite different

Many of your gather rates seems to be from AoK where they were different, I know that Farms are faster than Sheep, I remember back in AoK that 1 vill on 1 sheep equals farms gather rates, but wenst slower with more vills on same sheep.

Uhm, thats a post from 2015...

I have the faint hope that If I repeat enough that it's useless to answer ancient posts that it will stop eventually.
