Ragnar Lodbrok
Hello AoE Community, correct me if I'm wrong, but AoF team seems to be a bit focused on creating new campaigns, so, taking a ride on History channel's most recent sucess, I suggest creating a campaign about him and the vikings ascension through england. I know there is already Erik the Red and Harold Hardraade in the TC campaigns, but I think a more viking-focused campaign would be great, and the history of Ragnar Lodbrok is awesome!!

Anyways, hope you guys liked it! =D

I'm a big fan of the Vikings series as well! Did you see the season finale?

Also, since the devs made some of the future achievements live, you can get a bit of a teaser by looking at the description of at least one of them ;)

O.o

Yes I watched it, it was amazing!!! I was thinking *someone* (avoiding spoilers) had actually betrayed Ragnar!!

I'll take a look at the archievements! Thank you

Better to make a chinese campaign. As far as I remember there is no any mission where you have to be them. Or persians.

Btw, vikings are also a good idea.

Are there any plans to make some adjustments to the "History" tab in Age of Empires 2?
There's something special in checking those things out

Me too, but the ending was excellent (if brutal)! Fitting, considering the general attitude in medieval Norse culture and mythology (you can probably tell I read a ton of it) towards betrayal, cowardice, and conniving tactics. I also really appreciate the way they weave Norse myths (sometimes exact quotations from the Prose and Poetic Eddas even) into the show.

Yes, the show is extremely careful in its detalis, I think that is what makes it special!! And how Ragnar not only respect but is also curious about other cultures and religions, he was wise and a very observant. I'll only be really upset with his death, I mean... so many amazing enemies he had, but king Aella killed him, the dumb fat lazy king. And btw, I loved the blood eagle!

Yeah, unfortunately the show has several inaccuracies as well, but is great nonetheless. It seems, however, that season 3 will have Ragnar changing his targets for raiding. After all, there are still ~60 years to go before Ragnar's historical death.

Tbh, I knew Jarl Borg was getting the blood eagle once I heard the seer tell him that the eagle was his destiny back in episode 4 I think. The portrayal was good though- violent of course, but not too gory, gruesome, or disturbing. Props to Jarl Borg for sticking it out through the whole thing and going to Valhalla- he's a tough dude.

11 I never thought I'd see this on an AoE2 Steam forum, Not that its a bad thing. Love the show as well.
The show is quite good if you get used to the idea that it's made for entertainment first and foremost. I would prefer to see a campaign based on Ivar the Boneless. And he should have brittle bone disease and be carried on top of a shield and fire arrows in the game. :)

Historically does he die that old? He old be around 70-80 years old, quite difficult on that time to get to this age...

Yeah, the show is unfortunately inaccurate on many points. Ivar the Boneless was a really cool historical character- as were all of the other sons of Ragnar ;)

Another of the show's inaccuracies- they wanted to portray the raid on Lindisfarne in 793 and mistakenly used Ragnar, who was not alive at the time. Ragnar was quite famous as a scourge of Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, Francia, and the Baltic, although there are few concrete records of his existence save for his familial bloodlines.

Personally, I find that talking about the Middle Ages without devoting a ton of time to the Vikings is impossible. Talk about a major historical catalyst!
