Can we talk about friendly fire? (Forgotten)
Look, I understand why friendly fire for Mangonels and Onagers were added in the Forgotten, to prevent them from becoming overpowered. But in regicide games, where you can be cleaning house and just trying to mop things up, all of a sudden you're been defeated. Why you ask? Because your asshat of a teammate who hasn't really been helping the whole game has been whittling down your castle with his Onager, and then killing your king. They are no notifications for his attacks, and you cant attack his Onagers unless you make Onagers yourself, which takes awhile if you arent making siege (with lock teams on). The fact that you get credited with a loss also is idiotic, because your teammate ends up cleaning up the rest of the players. Yes, its trolling at its finest, and it was funny the first time. The third or fourth time? Not so much.

A solution? Keep friendly fire on against friendly units, since while annoying, it will take signicantly longer to do damage aginst vils since they are usually spread out over farms. It would still be annoying, but not as much. However, turning it off against buildings would make sense. Why would you ever be firing Onagers against friendly buildings (enough to destroy them) in a legitimate situation?

Because of this, Regicide is unplayable.

Or you could just play with "locked teams" off...
Unfortunately, there isn't much of a solution currently. And this game is mostly designed for 1v1. You can see it in some of the overpowered team bonuses. The only solution is to note the troll's name and not play with him again.
First off, "friendly fire" was not added in AoF. This has been a feature of the game since 1999, and judging by the number of regicide games that have been played since then (and its popularity as a game mode), it is most certainly not "unplayable".

My advice: There are always going to be people like this. Whether you call them trolls, hacks, cheaters, etc it doesn't change the fact that they represent an utterly miniscule percentage of the myriads of people who play AoE2 on Steam regularly. Just note the bad apples as per Lightning's post above and avoid them.

Also, don't get too worked up about it- everyone has that phase where they find trolling fun- back in '07 I can recall myself blasting my teammates with the rocket launcher in Halo 3 once or twice. You can submit a report on him if you really want, but regardless, move on and enjoy the game!

-I think this is an important point to remember. Also, when you find a teammate who seems like a good fellow, why not add him as a friend? As much fun as I have solo-queing, most of the best moments I've had in video games if with people that are not strangers.
Yes, like the campaign of piracy you launched against the civilized world in our game of Egressa =)
