Strategy for countering onagers
So I always play against my brother and cousin in a 2v1 setup and they are beating me every time because they are just massing onagers. Any time I try to take them out they just wipe out a whole platoon at once. Can anyone give me an idea on how to counter attack the onagers. O and one of them is playing as the koreans so he has that extra range for his onagers. Thank you in advance for anyone with an anwer.

-Harass their gold stream and they won't be able to afford onagers.

-Send multiple groups of hussars with your own siege.

-Play 2v2 so you can trade.

-Beat them before imperial.

Early stages, you can counter them with crossbows but you have to micro them but it's best to get cavalry, hussar line or paladin line

Oke first tip I can give is, Go to aoczone and search for the same question over there.
But Monks(specialy for astec) and bombards cannons can do it. Or celt infantry or EEW.

Hussars in staggered formation. They're so cheap (80 food) and expendable. They're the fastest unit in the game so they have great closing speed. They have a fast attack speed. Being on top of onagers means that they can't fire because of minimum range. You can produce them faster than your enemies can produce onagers. Crush him and he will be forced to produce something else.

If you're not going to kill them before Imperial Age, I've found that the Turks counter onagers the best. Their bombard cannons have lots of extra range and can shoot the onagers down before they even get near. They get free hussar upgrades. And, in the worst case, you'll have janissaries that can die easily but will shoot down onagers quickly as well.

If they are literally doing nothing but producing tons of onagers, just use a bunch of cheap cavalry (Hussars are good if your faction can make them) in staggered formation. You can even micro manage a bit to avoid the blasts. All you need to do is get close and it's over. I'm not entirely sure how the ranges of Korean onagers and your castles stack up, but you can always try kiting his onagers into a castle trap. The castles might take a bit of damage but they are reasonably effective against onagers, especially if garrisoned.

another thing that might work is to build a few onagers of your own. Don't let your whole army consist of onagers, but just mix in a pair. send those onagers out first, split formation, and send them at their onagers. With a bit of luck, you'll be able to hit multiple enemy onagers before your onager gets owned.

Baffles me no one asked what map it is. Everything depends on the map.

On open maps like arabia, you shouldnt really have any troubles dealing with onagers. Get some none-archery units in there and you're set.

On Black Forest, its more difficult cuz of the choke point-fighting. Use a civ that has siege onagers themselves, or try to wall forward in the beginning so you have more space to send in cavalry.
