Is this really not compatible with Windows XP?
Question in the title, I understand it's a newer edition, but it seems odd that AoE III works for Windows XP but AoE II doesn't, is this the case? I'm really looking forward to buying this game :(

There is an older "brach" of the HD edition that works on XP, but we are nearly into 2016 here, it's time to upgrade to Windows 7 or later man.

you can play the game with xp BUT you have to load the XP patch BUT than you are not ale to play the DLC and you are not able to play in multiplayer with player that use an different version than so -> you are just able to play in multiplayer with people that also use the XP patch.

i can ask why you against an newer windows ?

You can't expect them to keep running compatibility for a system 4 systems old

Built this PC back in 2009, it was decent back then, but now not so much.
Also I only have 2 gb 400 mhz ram, so that makes Windows 7 run like crap.
Keep in mind buying more ram is so much more expensive in my country than in other countries.
For example 4 gb of ram is probably like 800$ (not dollars).

Anyways thanks for the help guys, I guess I'll upgrade at some point lol.

No due to the 3D water rendering. The graphical enhancements (such as 3D water and vsync) require more power to run smoother, but it might work.

I've finished Crysis, played BFBC2 and currently play CS GO and like a 9 year old original physical copy of AoE III.
Really the RAM is probably the worst thing about this PC, but it holds up pretty good.

I currently have 1500 dollars saved, but I'm not sure If I want to spend them on a PC... even though I could get a pretty decent one.

I've seen it run at 333 but I think the settings needed tweaked too. At those speeds I think it makes quite a difference how much of the vRAM is on the GPU [if any] and how fast the HD is [a well defragged 7200 rpm HD allows the caching ot run faster]

I used to play it on a Dell Inspiron 9100. It wasn't a good experience :) The 3.4GHz CPU helped to keep it working and I used QEMM memory management to tweak avaialble resources.
