Lan multiplayer

So, I usually play old AoE II with my friends locally with a LAN connection. With this HD edition, it's still possible, or we'll need to connect online (even if we're in the same room) in order to play together?

You need to be online, from what the devs have said, the networking code had to be updated to work with steam, and it would have taken quite a bit of extra effort to rebuild a lan option again, once you've started the game though, it will run over your LAN, so there's no latency issues, and you won't be wasting bandwidth.
