In the expansions trebs are a lot better at cutting trees and regular onagers can cut trees too. But mangonels still can't so the Huns still have to rely on trebs because they don't get the onager upgrade.
PS: Having played another game, same composition, I tried with trebuchets by right-clicking and it worked (could swear I tried it the other time), without chemistry, not sure if I tried with.
But the other game attacking ground with trebs didn't work.
Trebs are very, very funny things. Because they have no area effect at all. Unlike every other siege weapon in the game. This means they need a direct hit.
This means that if they miss a tree by a smidgeon - because you used Attack Ground, which just attacks an area, you won't chop any trees. However, if you actively tell the treb to attack the tree then you might get better results...
... might.
Trebs also have a hardcoded accuracy bonus of 80% against 1x1 objects. So there's a one-in-five chance that your shot will miss anyway.
In any case, you'll only chop down one tree at a time.
I'm not sure what Chemistry does though - the first post might be right, as I usually research Chem immediately when reaching Imp (because I NEED CANNON GALLEONS)
