thankyou, that's what all the forums seem to say, I appreciate your input.
AoM is also good, but its something different
Aoe3 isnt quite my taste, but not a bad game either
AoE1 and 3 are both alright games, but they both show their age in really bad ways. Also, in my opinion, 3 is just plain ugly to look at. Somehow Age of Empires 2 has just aged really, really well.
Age of Empires 1 and 2 are very similar games. AoE2 is just more advanced. Better graphics. Units can walk across farms. Better hotkeys. Large population. Features like Gates in walls etc.
Age of Empires 3 was a different game. And not a very good one IMHO.
AOE2 > AOE1 > AOM > AOE3 (Just to insert AOM in there)
I've been playing since the AOE1 expansion Rise of Rome. AOE1 was awesome, but AOE2 beats it because of the gameplay improvements with smart villagers and better balance. AOM was interesting for a change. It had some neat ideas and was fun to play for an AOE veteran, but wasn't as good as the previous 2 games.
AOE3 jumped the shark. Not the worst game I've ever played, but definitely not up to the AOE name.
