How to remove the asterisk / star symbol in front of my player name?
Hi community! I played aoe2 like 13 years ago and I now I am back for the HD version. I am currently playing the single player campaigns just to familiarise myself to the game again.

However I have a minor problem that would like to seek for a solution. There is an asterisk symbol (*) in front of my player's name near the score display (f4) that annoys me and I want to get rid of it. For example I typed my player's name as Peter it then displayed as *Peter. I watched some game clips of other players playing single campaign and I didn't see that asterisk symbol in front of their name. Anyone knows what is the reason for this? Thanks.

asterisk symbol shows who is host of game and it cannot be removed.

I guess there is a way that can get rid of the asterisk symbol. As I have watched some videos on YouTube of other player, and their player name when they were playing campaigns are without the asterisk symbol. Really hope someone can help.

Maybe they are playing on Voobly (or even the original AoC CD-version)?

I don't know if the asterisk is shown on Voobly. It's just a guess.

asterisk was added in patch so older videos on HD may not have it

I have heard of Voobly but didn't try it myself. Really hope someone have used Voobly to play single player campaign can give an answer.

In this case I guess Steam and Voobly would be the same regarding the asterisk symbol? Because they both have the same patch isn't it?

No, voobly runs AoC(2000) while Steam runs HD edition.
