GUI in 4K resolution is too small
I just got this game recently and started playing it initially on my 4K HDR TV and was surprised by how small the GUI was. I could barely read anything and since this was my first time even the tutorial menus, texts and layouts was hard to discern.

I got so frustrated that I connected the PC to my older 1080p TV which makes everything now legible. Really sad that I had to do this, but since my PC can't manage 4K on newer games properly anyways until I upgrade my gpu, that is okay. This probably occurs on some of my other older games as well.

I will just reserve my 4K TV for my Xbox One X console for the moment until I can get a newer gpu.

You can use this tool: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=141103430
to switch your resolution to full HD when starting the game

Thanks but I just ended up hooking my PC to my older 1080pTV. The game looks great and the text is readable now.

"Download a program like Restorator[www.bome.com], or Resource Hacker[www.angusj.com]
Open "AoK HD.exe" and "launcher.exe" (optional, as it doesn't affect the actual game) in the program you downloaded (restorator, resource hacker, or any program that has the same function)
Navigate to the manifest section, and edit them.
For launcher.exe
Simply find
<dpiAware xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2005/WindowsSettings">true</dpiAware>
and change the value "true" to "false" and save
For Aok HD.exe
Process is slightly more complicated, since, the internal manifest doesn't have dpiAware, so we have to manually add them in.
Between </trustInfo> and </assembly>, add in the following code and save:
<application xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3">
<windowsSettings>
<dpiAware xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2005/WindowsSettings">False</dpiAware>
</windowsSettings>
</application>
Play game on 4K screen"

Bam. No longer need to switch monitors.

Wow someone with an orange name! What about all the other problems with the game? Will there be a fix/patch from Microsoft or is this game finally dropped? Blizzard cares for Wc3...

orange name only means moderator, afaik he is not employed at M$ :P

that being said it seems they abandoned it, not trying to sound smug here but "as predicted" they released aoe1de only on their store, it tanked and now they came to the obvious "its not us its the players fault" solution....

In this thread he suggested that there is a possibility of someone doing some work on the game, but he did not reply to my message, so don't know really...

Yep I don't know anyone playing AoE DE. I don't know if I'd pay another $40-$50 for an AoE2 DE. There is too much trouble with AoE2 HD.

Hmm i saw it sell for 20€ in a store lately, but i wont buy it even for 10, too much bad experiences with the windows app store, micorsofts support, and some particular sour memory about gfwl...

Definitely the store needs to be improved but the games I have there: Halo Wars DE, Halo Wars 2, Forza Horizon 4, etc. seem to work fine so I was thinking of getting AoE DE and eventually AoE 4 when it is released.

I also own an Xbox One X, so their Play Anywhere feature is very convenient allowing me to buy a game once and play it on console(at home) and PC(when traveling with my laptop as well as at home with my gaming desktop) while bringing my saves and achievements with me.

@Jineapple

@1337MechaFührer

Thanks for providing those possible solutions to my UI scaling problem, but I found a third way to solve it.

Since I have a physical steam link which only outputs at 1080p to the HDTV(1080p max) in my bedroom, I just play this game over there instead through my steam link and all the UI are scaled properly.

If I want to get a greater field of view though, I just move to the room where my PC is actually located and connected to a 4K HDR TV and see the expanded view there.
