to switch your resolution to full HD when starting the game
Thanks but I just ended up hooking my PC to my older 1080pTV. The game looks great and the text is readable now.
"Download a program like Restorator[www.bome.com], or Resource Hacker[www.angusj.com]
Open "AoK HD.exe" and "launcher.exe" (optional, as it doesn't affect the actual game) in the program you downloaded (restorator, resource hacker, or any program that has the same function)
Navigate to the manifest section, and edit them.
For launcher.exe
Simply find
<dpiAware xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2005/WindowsSettings">true</dpiAware>
and change the value "true" to "false" and save
For Aok HD.exe
Process is slightly more complicated, since, the internal manifest doesn't have dpiAware, so we have to manually add them in.
Between </trustInfo> and </assembly>, add in the following code and save:
<application xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3">
<windowsSettings>
<dpiAware xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2005/WindowsSettings">False</dpiAware>
</windowsSettings>
</application>
Play game on 4K screen"
Bam. No longer need to switch monitors.
that being said it seems they abandoned it, not trying to sound smug here but "as predicted" they released aoe1de only on their store, it tanked and now they came to the obvious "its not us its the players fault" solution....

Definitely the store needs to be improved but the games I have there: Halo Wars DE, Halo Wars 2, Forza Horizon 4, etc. seem to work fine so I was thinking of getting AoE DE and eventually AoE 4 when it is released.
I also own an Xbox One X, so their Play Anywhere feature is very convenient allowing me to buy a game once and play it on console(at home) and PC(when traveling with my laptop as well as at home with my gaming desktop) while bringing my saves and achievements with me.
@1337MechaFührer
Thanks for providing those possible solutions to my UI scaling problem, but I found a third way to solve it.
Since I have a physical steam link which only outputs at 1080p to the HDTV(1080p max) in my bedroom, I just play this game over there instead through my steam link and all the UI are scaled properly.
If I want to get a greater field of view though, I just move to the room where my PC is actually located and connected to a 4K HDR TV and see the expanded view there.
