The gameplay is also different. AoE2 is more pure real-time-strategy, while AoE3 introduces some new gameplay elements which many people (me included) feel are just distracting from the gameplay how it should be. I can't write you an essay on this, but I'm sure you'll find a comparison elsewhere.
Oh that’s why I don’t like AoE3 graphics, are 3D. Lol, didn’t even realized. Guess will stay on my old good AoE2 :) thanks
for example i dont like very much aoe definitive edition graphics :) what i understand they try to make like cossacks 3 but i dont think thats a good idea :)
nowadays some generals amalgam games have very clear and easy to follow 3d graphics as well by the way :)
I prefer AOE2 SP over AOE3 SP tbh.
Also one of the very first game to use Hovak physics Yes, those destructions are real physics and not per-rendered animations.
Anyone who tells you that AOE 2 has better graphics either has nostalgia glasses on or has very poor taste in game visuals.
The only graphics that you can say are better in AOE 2 are horses and other animals since making smooth organic looking animals in 3d would require high polygon count. Which at that time would have been too much for graphics cards to handle.
But the maps, buildings, ships, water, special effects, sounds, interface and everything else is way better. Its not even a contest.
Having said that, game play wise, specially multiplayer, AOE 2 is far superior game. If you are only going to play single player without mods buy AOE 3 complete edition. Otherwise buy AOE 2.
But if you like RTS games, you should get both.
If I remember correctly (haven't played the game in years) there was a fix. You can unlock the camera.
Did a search.

If you are talking about camera pitch then follow the last post here

"go to startup/game.cfg and searh 'pitch'
limitPitch=47 - is what you will see, I added a note above that telling me that the original was 47. Change it to whatever you want (its the angle to the horizontal axis) so 10 would put you at about the angle I used in the movie, where as 90 would put you at a birds eye view."
Just tried this fix out. It is amazing how much the gameplay feeling changes just by this little change. Thank you very much for this comment.
