I've a feeling that still needs an internet connection.
There is an offline mode, but I don't think that saves your progress/game like a local server will, so it would be a fresh start every time you play I guess...
You cannot play Dayz without an internet connection unfortunately. Wish it had a offline mode.
And once again, you are INCORRECT.
As PorkChop said, You need to have an internet connection, to PLAY DayZ ... The KEY WORD is "PLAY" ... The DayZ Client (the Game) needs to be connected to the Internet to communicate with the Battleye Anti-Cheat servers, AND to communicate with Steam Authentication servers.
^^ That is a totally separate issue from being able to run a Local DayZ Server .. the DayZ Server does NOT have to be connected to the internet to run, it does NOT need to be authenticated by Steam.
For the OP, if you have a half-decent internet connection, you should be able to set up a Local DayZ server on your own PC, for you to play alone on, but there is no "offline mode" for the DayZ Game itself, like some other games have. You will need to be signed in to, and have a half decent connection with, Steam to be able to run the game client.
player mode built into the game.
- Download DayZ server through Steam
- Port forward through router tools
- Set up DayZ server config
- Disable network adapter
- Launched server
- Launched DayZ
After all of this, I received the "waitauthplayerloginstate" time out when trying to connect to the server. After receiving this message, I re-enabled my network adapter to be online and still got the same error. After that, I went back online on Steam and it instantly worked first time
When I turned the server on with my network adapter off, I received the following from the server console:
20:52:59 BattlEye Server: Initialized (v1.219, DayZ 1.24.157828)
20:52:59 SUCCESS: SteamGameServer_Init(0,8766,2302,27016,3,1.24.157828)
The console also constantly spams the message "Failed to validate Steam..."
As you can see, it has absolutely no trouble initializing BattlEye on the server nor when launching DayZ in offline mode (you can even launch DayZ with BattlEye disabled in the launcher settings) while 100% disconnected from the internet, but it does throw a fit if you're trying to play in offline mode on Steam. I also didn't get any BattlEye errors from trying to join and I knew it was connecting because the server console began initializing my character and stopped when I got kicked for the "waitauthplayerloginstate" time out
I don't get why they still pull this crap because there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to host an offline LAN server without having to validate through Steam since it's not going to be disruptive to anybody online whatsoever. I understand why they removed DayZ from family sharing since it allowed one Steam account to be used on an infinite amount of alts to cheat with on online servers, but there's no logic for why you have to be connected to Steam to play an offline LAN server
Thats it.
Use Single player offfline mode
You can spawn anything and ghost around the map and it works with all 30 maps
