Switching Servers Loses Gear?
Hey, I'm just wondering, if I were to switch servers (the one I always use as stopped 3rd person view) would I lose all my gear? I've been told that people are losing gear when switching servers

Some servers are not part of the so-called "hive" which is where your character is stored. So as long as the server is connected to that you will keep gear, if you do find yourself on a server without your gear, simply switch again.

oh so if i found a server which deletes my gear and I return to the original server, my gear will still be there? How do I know which servers are hive linked, or is it just pot luck if i land in one?

Im not entirely sure tbh, but i think most servers are linked up, and ones that arnt are probably privatly hosted or something, ive only had this once so far, so just connect to the same type of server and you'll be fine. And Dayz in its current form, your gonna lose all your stuff anyway. Which i dont mind too much, gives you something to do again ;)

If its an official server (hive if what people call it) you keep your item/gears and your character magically heals up like broken bones, coz I fell from the stairs in Rog Castle, changed server and I magically healed up. (hunger and thirst is not affected)

If you join any private servers (funded by a group of friends or community) you will lose your gear and start as a newbie.

There are reports that joining a server can reset your character. Even when joining servers that are connected to the Hive. Happened to me.

As far as I'm aware the standalone doesnt support private hives yet. This is from the changelog from todays patch.
"Server: First Person only servers are now supported (Seperate Hive coming later on)"
So all servers SHOULD be public hive, if your gear doesn't spawn its a server issue where the server doesn't upload or download your character info. If that happens log out and into another server and you should be good.

sometimes it can happen cuz when i switched server i lost my characters so i had to restart everything :(

It might be a good thing. Otherwise people would run around collecting gear on empty servers and only log onto another one when they're kitted out and want to PvP near the shore.

Its been takeing a long time for my gear to load up when I join new servers but The gear has came back ever time but it does suck lol.
Whenever you get disconnected from a server because of bad synch or you get kicked you should to back to the main menu where you can see your character and then switch to another server. Thats what I do ever since my character got wiped twice and I have never gotten another reset in my life!

I wish I could just always "play on the same server" but it's full most of the day; I'd have to join at like 6am to get in. But I have switched servers, been a fresh spawn, and gone back to that (private) server and still had all my gear, if that helps.

Don't know if they changed it yet, I know they were planning on it, but if it's still the same then first person only servers and first/third person servers have two different hives.

EDIT: Oh ffs people still bringing up over a year old threads.

How do you see if it's a hive server? And if you NOT were playing on a hive server and change to a hive server, will you lose your gear THEN?
