In-Game Mic Always On
I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I think that using TeamSpeak, Skype, Steam VOIP, etc. is cheating while playing DayZ. It basically gives you the power of telepathy in-game. I agree that it's needed in order to find your friends in the same server, but anything beyond that takes away from the game.

Solution: I would like to see the DayZ Standalone only allow direct communications (like it is now), but it also forces any connected mic to go live. This means that players can still use 3rd party software to talk with friends, but they will also broadcast anything they say over the direct communications channel in DayZ as well. Basically, no push to talk for the direct channel. If you have a mic connected to your computer, be careful what you say.

I really don't see any problems with this. TeamSpeak essentially becomes a walkie-talkie. Post what you think...

Edit: I changed the title from "Prevent TeamSpeak / Skype" to "In-Game Mic Always On." I think this was causing some confusion along with people not reading anything before posting their comment.

What you are asking for is not only ridiculous, but technologically impossible.
Using communication apps is not cheating.

Agree

In DayZ, it is cheating if you use it to talk to people in the same server... people just aren't willing to admit it. Nothing is technologically impossible these days. All that's needed is to force the keybind for hands free VOIP in-game. It would really take less than 30 minutes to do.

Im afraid its impossible, for a variety of reasons:

1) The tears from people would flood the map, you will never stop them communicating. Also they could use steam in game to type to each other to also be telepathic, granted the benefits such as being able to communicate during a contact is taken away, but by the time you are ready for big contacts that TS is handy on, you are already in full military gear and its not outrageous to imagine you would have found radios to communicate.
2) You cant block 3rd party voice chat from within a game (which you already addressed)
3) Ive already thought of a way around your plan, i will simply turn my mic sensitivity down in dayz and up in TS and that way ill still be silent in game, yet speaking on voice comms.
4) Another route around, is to use two media devices. Many people these days have multiple media devices, I for one could easily hook my laptop up to skype/ts and play on my PC thus gaining an advantage on everyone.

Of course you are completely right, and i agree wtih you it does take away from the game, but i genuinely dont think there is a way to fairly implement it. Unfortunately a loophole would be found and its probably fairer to leave the field open so that everyone can "cheat" using a voice comms with their group.

Thank you J0nny for that educated response. I did not consider 3 & 4.
id just get ts on my phone and conect via my wifi and turn voip in game down to a minimum

I actually like the idea quite a lot. It adds another layer of realism to the game.

You could still use your skype/vent/whatever, but everything you say would also be heard by those around you as well, much like real life.

In all honesty I agree with OP. I was playing with a buddy last night and felt the same way... felt like we're cheating because we're talking through Skype. I agree, open mic should be enabled. Don't have to give the players the ability to mess with the mic sensitivity in the game a ton either. If the mic detects speech, it broadcasts.

Yes, people can get on the phone and try to make conference calls on their phones but I'd guess majority wouldn't bother with it so it'd cut off a huge portion of the Skype population.

Whenever I play with friends, we only use the in-game direct channel. It adds to the game. We have to be careful what we say sometimes and we're looking forward to Dean's whisper feature and walkie-talkies. Although, we use Steam VOIP to find each other at the start of things, so I understand the need for 3rd party VOIP apps.

lawl, this will never happen. and the game would be worse for it if it did (which it wont ever happen) not to mention lets say your "LoL Fix" was implemented I have a cell phone that run skype in my pocket, I have a tablet that runs skype siting beside my keyboard ... I wouldnt even need to use my pc mic to use any of them as i use skype on both devices alot while I play games anyway so I dont got to tab out to manage calls ... everyone has cell phones and or tablets.. your living in a fantasy thinking there is any possable solution for this.. hell I could even use my laptop seperatly for skype lawl garbage

it would ruin the game for people who play as groups.... i would be stuck running around for hours looking for my friends and because i cant speak i will never find them

Im with you on this Richard!

There are just too many tec issues to prevent it though.

Your ‘always on’ mic idea is interesting, but I’m not sure I would like other people in game hearing my girlfriend asking me “Are you playing that stupid rolling in the grass simulator again!?” over direct chat.

Those of you who think TS is not cheating are kidding yourself….By definition, if it’s not in the game its cheating, same goes for having a browser window open with a Map and all the other little tricks.

Then someone need to buy mics for everyone.
Skyhigh Dec 23, 2013 @ 8:57am
You all have to admit though that its funny so many think there all hardcore moding it and got 25 people all over the map that, with the push of a button on Teamspeak they can instantly talk to. lol
Discordian Dec 23, 2013 @ 8:57am
I'll stop using Skype when radios are added into the game.
