How do i type Ingame

Just incase i come across anyone i wanted to know how to type ingame.
Also i have been playing for an hour and havent seen anyone or any zombies is this normal?

Press "/" to type in direct chat. Zombies are scarce because the game is still in early alpha.

I've ran into some areas with many zombies. Then again I've had times when there was virtually none to be found.

I think their respawn is very limited so if the server has a good amount of players they've likely been about severely culled many areas.
