DayZ

Still a walking simulator
You'll have to forgive my rather early assumption as its been some time since my adventures in the original DayZ but what exactly has all the work gone into?

I noticed some fine tuning here and there, obviously a much better inventory system and so forth, but for this length of time I expected something a little more.

I'm not alien to alpha testing and I'm quite happy to support the development of the game early. However, I'm not quite willing to "test" features that I can't even find or figure out. The hunger/thirst etc makes 0 sense, crafting is all but irrelevant for the average player as you find little more than broken tools, rotting food and maniacs wielding fire extinguishers, and attempting to "test" combat related stuff is almost impossible as you can't spawn with friends and the average joe isn't going to sit by and let you take a few swings.

Also the map appears to be vastly unchanged in terms of design? As I mentioned before, my memories of DayZ are quite hazy so please provide an example if I'm wrong but outside of more interaction with buildings (which is obviously a great feature), I seem to find 90% of the locations I visit worryingly familiar.

And where the hell are the zombies? In 3 hours play time tonight I saw 1, 1 zombie...

I'm not quitting, don't want a refund but even an alpha should have certain standards. Within 3 seconds of loading the game the button is out of place (although that could well have been intentional for the giggles).

Yes, alpha, I understand. However, discovering a problem within several seconds of playing the game just gives people the impression the devs are lazy. True or not, you don't really want that kind of vibe at the early access launch of a new game.

(Disclaimer: I'm aware that all of these issues will likely be fixed but personally, I think even the alpha could have done with a little more work to avoid the average gamer from raging over the lack of content, stupidly long walks and problems that were in the mod. Richochet bullet sound effect with the hatchet anyone?)

You are still going to get attacked, word it as nice as you want and explain it even better and they still flame, i think this progress is horrible even for this game's Alpha stage, but hey to each their own. If you want a much better experience and you own Arma 3 get the free Mod for it, it completely blows this away its incredible and they didnt have no where near the time Rocket and his team has had. Give it a try you wont be dissapointed you did...

I too was upset when i read that the game map was unchanged from the mod version.

But, i like the walking simulator aspect of the mod, but my tastes are strange i guess. It was like a peaceful calm running through rolling hills in a light rain then in an instant i was in a town swarmed by zombies and bullets wizzing by my head from snipers.

If you can find a bicycle it's awsome. I love riding around especially down big hills you get going really fast and it has a bell you can ring ding ding!

theres alot of work under the hood on how servers and players interact, so less hacking etc. also building interiors are massivly expanded.

Yeah, I'll stick to Arma 3 for now.

Well this is the game that hits the walking simulator with zombies niche.

The game might seem very similar to dayz mod externally but most of the work so far has been done under the hood. Whole new invetory system, big optimization etc.

And a lot of stuff is going to be added in the future.

Exactly, i think alot of people on here have yet to play the Dayz Arma 3 mod, because if they did they wouldnt be on here paying 30 bucks for this, im glad my buddy bought it first so i could see what was what. All people want to do on these forums is flame and fanboy in defense of their great master "Rocket".

Isn't the Arma3 mod full of hackers just like the Arma2 mod? I mean Bohemia just doesn't learn with their engines...if the hackers are kept away from Standalone the 30 bucks is worth it alone.

Nope not on the servers i play on, im telling you once you play the Arma 3 mod youll forget this even exists, i wouldnt be suprised if Bohemia shut down the A3 Dayz mod because people want that instead of this heap of trash. Just search Youtube for some video's on the A3 Dayz mod theres tons of hacker free fun content, if you play that youll never want to touch this Standalone again but hey everybodys different.

A popular, competitive PvP game? Hacks will be available within 2-3 days, if not already.

Just wait till the hackers get ahold of the broken code..... then you will see ....
Notli Dec 16, 2013 @ 7:56pm
the new server archetecture makes it so clients cant add items or do things the server deems impossible, we shall see of course, but basic script kiddies style "hacks" are not possible anymore

honestly time will tell for the hackers its too early to dismiss them altogether although I do hope that the standalone doesnt suffer the same as the mod or as much as arma 3
