Military loot in police cars.
Are police cars supposed to spawn military loot? I'm hosting a local server and upped the police car events to 100. Soon enough I started to find stuff like ammo crates, bayonets and various other clothing like tactical gloves. None of these items are set to spawn in police locations so what exactly is going on here?

Huh, that seemed to be the problem. That's rather odd considering I didn't change the police cars to spawn military loot. Thanks for the help.

It kinda makes sense though. If the world was falling apart the cops would be pulling out the big stuff. Some departments have certain kinds of military gear. Not only that, but the cops would get access to that kind of stuff through interactions with the military if the world was totally going to pieces. The military would be more likely to hand stuff out to law enforcement than civilians.

Well sure, it would make since from a lore perspective. But gameplay wise, police cars aren’t supposed to spawn military loot.

The point is, the loot system is broken. It is an old and well known thing. If you have your own server and you are sure that no one (besides you and your friends) enters it ... have you ever seen civilian objects in the military dormitories? there. You will see with years and experience that the game does NOT always follow the instructions in the configuration files exactly. If you exaggerate some events, the game can't keep up with the amount of spawns per slot available with that event's topic and will add items at random.
This is also DayZ.

Well, I already solved my problem but thanks for the input.

Oh, I didn't increase the loot "100 times". In my old vanilla server I had just modified to generate a few more useful stuff and less useless stuff. This was enough. But I've also seen things on public "Vanilla Originals" servers that definitely weren't made by gamers.
I checked the server configuration files, and for the loot in the police cars ... "it should" ... be just police items. I often find bottles of water, cans of pepsi, and other civilized nonsense. According to the config files they should NOT be there, but I find those things on public servers as well. I am NOT aware of the "modified" loot compared to the vanilla server you download from Steam. And I don't think any player on su would bother "swapping" civilian items for police items just to "prank" the next player who finds a police car (short events anyway)
ERGO: The loot system is broken. If you go and read the Bohemian forum, you will find other posts about this, over the years... it seems like an old problem never solved.

If I may ask, out of curiosity: how did you solve your "problem"?

In the mapgroupproto.xml the police cars were set to spawn military loot instead of police loot. Just had to set it to <usage name="Police" />

But if the server is yours, only you can have modified "mapgroupproto.xml" ... did you not remember it anymore?

I didn't change that. I honestly can't tell you why it wasn't set to police. Either way it's fixed.

Sorry but just to understand better. You have the vanilla server of the B.I. downloadable from Steam that you run on your hardware or have you rented a vanilla server from some third party provider?

Yes, I'm hosting a local server, the one you get from starting the dayz server tool.
Old_Wild_Lynx Sep 19, 2022 @ 3:09pm
Sorry if I still disturb, but to make sure I understand correctly.
We are talking about this server, right?

&

Are you the only one with access to the server configuration files?
And are you sure that, since you first installed it, you have never modified "mapgroupproto.xml"?
