My experience of DayZ

Now before those devout defenders jump on me violently shredding me to pieces, please read through.

My experience of DayZ has been one of let down. I'm sure we all know the reasons and we don't need to rehash this. Its been discussed time and time again.

My main issue is its fundamentally, to me, a Zombie game and they don't feature in it all that much. I start, I have loads of fun looting and scavenging, meeting up with friends. Then what do we do? Theres no challenge. We have everything we need to survive already! So we go insearch of better loot and some exciting danger. Assuming we survive this then find ourselves reluctant to lose our precious gear and normally stop playing. Why don't you try being bandits you might think. Because that has never apealed to us. We liked helping people, messing with people but never killing.

Recently we all desided to give it another try. For some strange reason beyond us the new cannibalism introduced was apealing to us. We desided to role play a bit. Our old characters long gone after various patches. We started a new. We didnt "over gear" so if we die we don't really care that much. We met up and quickly came across an unknown survivor. We wanted to role play a little as if this was our first decision to eat someone out of desperation. Include the player in this for some fun. Maybe even deside against it. But one of my friends is an idiot and just shot him.

Desiding not to waist the opportunity we gutted the poor sod and went to make a camp fire. This is where it got interesting. Without role play, we found our selves actually going through the process and 3 of us pussied out. Only 1 of us ate the meet. But next time me and another will give it a try. That only leaves one reluctant member of the group. I don't know how it will play out. I'm thinking of cuffing him and force feeding him the human meat. Whispering "join us"..

The point is. Its given us "something" to do. And for the first time in a long time I am enjoying playing DayZ.

I still get frustrated with some mechanics where I can't do something simple like open a gate. Or drop something thats in my hands but its alot better than it was. I had all but wrote this game off but I'll keep just a little spark of hope open for the time being. Until being a fat crazy cannibal gets boring atleast! My advice, get Zombies. Lots of Zombies! They always give people something to do.

Didnt have to read more than the first parageaph, you havent experianced the completed game.

Youve experianced the latest build TWORDS a completed game.

Like watching a skyscaper being built and all thats completed so far is the steel frame and saying, "theres no floors.ceilngs or elevators, this building sucks ".

The stuff to do ( i could see the last paragraph while makeing this reply ) is coming, read the chanfe logs for all the stuff thier continually working on : )

I have been playing since day 1 and I would like you to read the whole story if you could please. I take breaks of a couple months then I play and see how its coming on. Then I take a break again. I would apreciate if you read the whole post. Because its entirely possible you are taking it out of context. That is most likely my fault as I have a habbit of rambling. Really I just wanted to share my experience of some of the new mechanics that I enjoyed.

I respected your opinon and calm approach, i did read the whole thing. Your right i did misread the context or " message " my bad due to all the negative threads on here.

For me the " something to do " was the ghillie suits. I made 1 and learned to survive w/o a backpack in favor of being virtually invisible.

Then i realized................ most people have low to mid level puters, with the poor optimization of the game alot of foiliage and ground cover doent render on those puters due to low settings, the ghillies actually stand out more because of this : (((

I also take breaks, right now its 7D2D and im loving that game !!! Once .52 hits exp ill look for " something to do " in it : ))

Your right and i was wrong, rather than delete my post i'll lrave it so ppl can see a person can be wrong, ( me ) admit it and both ppl can move forward.

Its rare to experience such respect on these threads. I really apreciate it and I think it speaks alot to your character. I much prefer discussion and even debate to arguements. Thank you for that. I love 7D2D aswell. I must admit I mostly play creative on that though. Survival is great but I can be impulsive and find myself turning cheats on jsut to get some items then ruining it for myself. H1Z1 might be another good survival game in the new year. There's alot around at the moment. I'm considering Life is Fuedal aswell for a completely different take.

I own LiF also...................all i can really say is if your into micro micro micro management get it.
You have to craft soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many things to get a fianl product. EVERY trade depends on another person/persons in a different trade provideing you will the mats you need.

LOTS of grinding but somehow rewarding when you can make another set of armor or building or piece of furniture. Samll team slow progress, combat is mostly long range and melle is extrememly slow and clunky.

There are many different playstyles and situations:
you can build up a save heaven,
radio people,
test people (what are they going to do when they find somebody geared eating in front of them, sniper is covering),
play as a bandit,
insane dude,
surviour,
police (setting up roadblocks and ask for passports),
go as a medic and trad blood for food,
stalk people and wisper creepy stuff in your mic,
be a cannibal (feed people and force some dude to ♥♥♥♥ the meat for u),
Play as a hero (even handout guns),
get some mates and own some town,
do some pvp at the NWAF,
shoot a guy with a sniper and become friends with him (yes it happend),
run as a freshi with a grande (a gift from a friend) and blow up some dudes while suciding,
get some friends and do a friendly walk down to electro (rarly stays firendly),
pretend to be the sheriff in town,
toture some people in the same spot until the hole server comes after you,
go and run around giving food and clothing,
spread radios in town and play music while locking yourself in,
take some people captive,
be taken captive by some people and offer sexual favours to get free,
play russian roulette with 3 diffrent derrenigers,
play a game where you take 3 garages with 3 different surprises,
rob people with no bullets,
rob people with a banana (yes we actually did it),
plant tomatoes between cherno and electro and give them away to people for free,
Hnadcuff a friend, hide and wait how people react,
Run around play music and have a party (never ends well :D ),
Round around with a pressvest and interview people,
Pretend rice is cocain,
eat human meat, sit in the police station and laugh with your firends while being on a night server (yes it is very creepy, for people walking by),
Have no visble weapon and run up to people and see if they take advantage of you being friendly,
set up a show next to the road, where your friends is performing on some peoms, throw fruits and vegs if you do not like the performance,
Do some quis on a bambi,
knock out people and put a bag on there head,
Make people sign there national athem (there is some true talant out there),
Have some bambies fighting with pans.
Go fishing and swiming with a complete stranger,
Scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of some people while wearing the guily suit,
Be friendly in a military base (be prepared to have some epic encounter or die),
after a fight bandage your opponent if he is knocked out and leave him a message on paper in his backpack,
Be ambushed by a third party while having a chat with a geared other party.


It is up to you what you experience in DayZ.
Have some friends who have your back while you do this stuff.
Maybe you have some new ideas? Let me know :)

There are a few zombies, but there is no real survival past the first hour or two and it is meant to be a survival game.

They're not zombies in the classical sense of someone reaminated by a witchdoctor. They're known officially as "infected" like 28 Days Later.

The game isn't even finished. That's why it's not hard to survive, that's why it gets boring fast.

just going to point out a fact for the lack of zombies, DH didn't have the idea for a "zombie game", he had the idea for a survival game, to share his expierence after nearly dying during his army survival training. the zombies are just there as an aside and to add a little extra fear. oh and if your gonna call yourself a honey badger, atleast live up to the HB creedo,, Honey badger don't F**king care, PTO.

I was planning to dress up all white with a red backpack and a red construction helmet, find a truck and get loads of medical supplies. Meanwhile download a ambulance sound effect and play as medic/doctor and see how it ends xD

After that I will dress up all black, find a bible and force people to read a page and convert or die ;p
