Then why the hell do you keep the thread going? Delete it if you dont care. Or unsubscribe.
Whoops, should correct myself... went to look it up and link it. I thought I recalled reading that right after this holiday sale the price would go up to $44 -- but now it appears that once the game goes beta (projected for Q4 2015) the game will then increase to $44. Will keep researching though, since I could have swore I had read the price was going to go up after this week sale (unless that was internet-gossiped misinformation).

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/26/dayz-standalones-final-release-scheduled-for-2016

QUOTE: "Bohemia also shared its plans for DayZ's evolving price point, stating that "We would like to avoid a sudden increase in price once we hit the final release version." Its current alpha release Steam sale price of $30 USD / €24 will rise to $35 after the sale. The beta version, due Q4 2015, will cost $44 / €35, and the final 2016 release will be around $50 / €40."

PS - As I was quoting that, ironically I noticed it says the price would increase to $35 "after the sale"!? Uhhh, whoops? :P

EDIT: Come to think of it, guessing that's where the information-snafu stemmed from... the "after the sale" and the "$44 once beta", the two probably got combined. But yeah, even the direct quote says the price-increase shouldn't have happened until after the sale.

EDIT 2: Seems the projected final-release for DayZ Standalone is sometime in 2016 -- so why the heck did they wait until right during the holiday-sale to jack the price up!? *facepalm* >_<

ThunderMonkey,

In your opinion, why do you think they raised the price only to have it go on sale back nearly it's original price?
In my opinion, I honestly have to believe it was out of greed and poor logical-planning. I mean seriously... the timing is a bit too coincidental; right as the sale starts they raise the price just enough to nullify the sale, except for a whole 25 cents. And the logical-planning, as I said in my original post, comes into play because it'll do just the opposite of encouraging people to buy it over Arma 2 and the mod, it's going to hurt them in the long run, because in this economy it's natural and normal to comparison shop... and any that are logically price-minded, especially when considering amount of content, will more than likely go the Arma 2 route.

Also they claim as much "it's because it's nearing closer to completion" -- the game isn't projected to be done until sometime in 2016 (which could be even December of 2016 for all anybody knows)... so why wait until EXACTLY at the time of a holiday-sale to suddenly be all, "oh yeah, we've been meaning to jack the price, why not now"... especially when quoted that they wouldn't raise the price until after the sale... they've effectively cheated consumers out of being able to get the game at a discount, since had the price not increased, the sale price probably would have been $25.50... quite comparable to some other titles like Miscreated that I've been looking at for $24.99.

It'd be like Grand Theft Auto 4 taking Lost and the Damned, releasing it standalone and then charging more for it than the GTA4 collection... doesn't make much sense frankly.

Do you think that maybe, since they said it would raise over time, they did it as a way of saying, "hey, this is going to be the new price after the increase we made known, however, it's currently on sale back to its normal price so you can still pick it up after it goes to $35 permanently."

JEEZY MCREEZY LOOK AT ALL OF THIS TEXT
- DayZ is slated to increase to $44 for beta, at the end of 2015. That's a year away.
- The timing of the sale means you have until it ends to get the game at about $30. DayZ will likely never go on sale because it's already a discounted development version (Plus the full game for no extra cost when it's done).
- The mod is not comparable to SA. They're not selling you the same game with a convenient installation, SA can do things right now that the mod will never be able to do. ARMA 2 was simply the means to make DayZ into a game without a huge development team, if it was ever going to be a proper game (and not just a mod) it needed a better engine.
- DayZ has also ALWAYS been on sale. I bought a $50-60 game for $30. It's still in alpha testing, but I own the rights to my copy. You're going to be waiting a while after the full release to see a Steam sale on it, and you'll likely never find it at 50% off then.
- BI is doing exactly what they said they would do: Selling an in-progress version for cheap, and increasing the price as it fills out. Minecraft did it first, and I don't hear anyone complaining about it now.

Oops--

"So you can still pick it up at its original price BEFORE it goes to $35 permanetly"...
Not really, since they were even quoted in saying that the new price wouldn't go into effect until AFTER the sale. Which they're even quoted in saying: "will rise to $35 after the sale". This was published two days ago... so by any understanding of the English language, that pretty much says the price that's set as a base price on it now, shouldn't have ever happened until after the sale was over.

SgtPotatoes: Since there's too many places to poke holes in your logic, I won't even initiate nor respond, as an example, stating an alpha-game (which is also a *FREE* mod addon) is a $50-$60 game... can't think of that many that'd be willing to pay $50-$60 for either an alpha-stage game (granted there are some, but in comparison to those that wouldn't...), nor a mod that alternately is free.
