Nah that would make too much sense, in DayZ we like to have stuff thats usless and glitched.

You should use your brain bruh.
Alpha is for adding things. They are more often than not broken features, which is completely normal.
The bayonet will be useable when it is fixed, likely during Beta

The plan is that anything that you can hold in your hands will be able to be used as a melee weapon, including tomatoes and bayonets fixed to guns ... slowly, slowly getting there.

Melee attacks with rifles will probably be available once the new control scheme (discussed in the status reports) is finished and added to the game.

Of course we will be able to use bayonets att some point, it's just not implemented yet.
