It's just a game.
You can look at it two ways:
a) you accept the fear of death and play like a shadow, fearing everyone and everything. Avoiding any interaction and scared of the DayZ world.
b) you accept that you will die a lot of times, and take lessons from each death. Eventually, if you don't give up, you will become a experienced player and more with a hunter mindset, than a newbie mindset.
This doesn't mean you will kill other people, just means you will get better at surviving. Most people don't realize how long (not steep) the learning curve in DayZ is. You could spend months playing the game and have yet not faced situations like gunfight confrontations or different player interactions.
Your persistence will dictate what type of player you will be.
I shall not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Imagine you being followed by infected that just decided that you look tasty enough to have you for dinner, than suddenly out of nowhere three shots, all of your uninvited dinner guests fall down, and you are left without knowing if the next shot may hit you... ;-)
