Tisy and NWAF are pointless now.
Before the changes, youd need to travel to NWAF and Tisy in order to find the top tier weapons like M4, KAM, VSS etc. To find SVD and FAL youd have to get lucky and find a heli crash, then be extra lucky that it was a heli that dropped the SVD. Heli crashes for the most part where in the top left quadrant of the map. There were a couple that would spawn at the lower east part of the map, but 95% where tier 3/4 territory.
This made the travel to the NW a goal for any run, and it got a little harder as you got farther along with increased wolf spawn, tougher zeds, and the other players who made it this far certainly have the better guns.....

Now lets examine the current economy. You spawn into cherno, and right outside of Cherno there are several possible spawns for the new convoys which are OP - they usually spawn a SVD or FAL, and its not uncommon to find one of each, NVG then a big druum mag for AKM. I spwned in cherno, and had a SVD before I even had a backpack....

Even if you didnt start placing top tier most prized weapons by the coast , you have Rify (2 min jog from Berezino - a popular spawn location for bambies), and Pavlovo (not far from Cherno spawns). All you have to do is build a crate, throw the NBC stuff in there, and you have access to M4s, SVALs, AKMs, gas grenades, and suppressors.. at the coast..
AND, now you cant even find m4s, AKM, supprssors in Tisy or NWaf. You HAVE to use the 2 gas zones by the coast....

So, what do you get for your travel all the way to Tisy now? AK101? a few grenades and ammo? You can find ALL of that at the military bases leading to Tisy.

I already know im going to hear people say "People go for the PvP"... except, they arent.. and that is why the devs spoke about completely re working the NWAF because people arent finding PvP there.
My theory is that people just arent travelling there as often anymore because they dont need to. Why go to the NW corner of the map for a AK74 when you already found an AUG by the time you hit Zelenogorsk?????

I just dont really get why they did this. And I wish they just did it differently.

Why make suppressors for AKs only spawn in the 2 gas zones, why cant you still let them spawn in Tisy/NWAF? A lot of players arent the types to build stashes and save up NBC gear, gas filters, charcoal for dedicated runs to get these items...

M4 and AKM are high tier weapons, so why place them so close to the coast? Then REMOVING them entirely from the "Tier 4" zone?

the first thing I did was build crates to keep extra NBC gear near rify. And especially in Berezino it does not take long to find the entire kit. whenever i die, id respawn until i got a berezino spawn, then as a fresh spawn id jog over and pick up a m4 or AKM.

So thats mainly a logical approach to this scenario...
Then theres the anecdotal evidence I have.. me and the groups i play with all clearly CLEARLY see a drastic loss of players in the North but especially the NW... anything north of zelenogorsk.. It used to be a nice place to find big bases, hidden cars.... And when the server was full and you were walking around Novaya you were hearing gunfights in 4km circumference every 10 min.
Now even when our servers are full (at 80 slots) walking around NWAF, Vybor, Novaya, Tisy is a GHOST TOWN. Hours and you wont hear anything or see anyone.
The other day we realized we were driving our olga through NWAF to loot it on a full server, and how that kinda thing wouldve been SUICIDE not that long ago in DayZ.. we just knew that odds are, regardless of player pop, we will not see anyone.

That used to be the place to go if you wanted to try and get a sweet come up... because thats where all the players with the best stuff were.
Now you have end game kitted players in balota.
When you give them that kinda stuff so soon and easily it also makes it not special to have one.
The goal was to try and get to NW, find one of the really good guns... oh wait, heres a FAL right here north of elektro. K.

I should also mention that the servers we play on are community vanilla, or "vanilla+" servers. Lightly modded, preserving the OG dayZ experience...
Im sure things like traders and "safe zones" have an impact so maybe those of you who play on heavily modded servers with coppers and stuff might not see this problem...idk.

Maybe before adding a mechanic which randomly gasses parts or whole cities, you couldve reworked vehicles and figured a way to make them a little more obtainable or something... Something to encourage some actual travel around the map. The way cars are now, most people will put in the time to collect the radiator, spark plugs, and haul the 10kg battery around until you manage to find a car... hopefully it has the tires.
And with the way they are, people are unwilling to drive them when the servers are above medium pop. Youll see them just being stored away.

And before we had unlimited stamina , even with unlimited stamina it would take hours to travel the map. And when we had the unlimited stamina you couldnt run up steep hill sides like you can now..... Youd come to a walking pace when going up steep hill sides.
Its just interesting how they implement a stamina system for 'realism', while at the same time they begin allowing people to sprint at full speed up a 70 degree incline...

Agree 100% with everyting you said. i also criticize how the bases are so easy to raid now (when playing in the vanilla setting like you are). A group of 3-4 players can quickly loot kamenka military a couple times and end up with enough ammo to shoot through a few steel gates. now add in the 4 grenades they found each time, the c4 they found in novo industrial.... the time it takes to find & assemble the materials for the gates vs the time it takes to find the bullets to shoot through them is just not balanced whatsoever. make walls stronger, or make ammo and nades spawn less. isnt this supposed to be a game where you survive by scraping together the remnants of society? but you quickly end up with multiple magazines and ammo stacks for the weapon you use. seems more like cod than a serious post apoc survival sim... most people i play with in the vanilla scene dont even bother picking up the bits of ammo that arent pristine. imagine one of negans guys in twd passing up on some ammo because it was dirty or something

Ye. I really want to stick to vanilla servers too but rn its just not doing it for me. I finally gave Namalsk a shot just because I was so jaded with the vanilla charnarus community servers (wont waste time on official for obvious reasons). It was a refreshing change because its actually a challenge to get gear and survive and wat I noticed almost instantly was how much more I ended up talking with people i ran into and having fun with them trying to survive instead of just being relentlessly attacked by everyone in chernarus . I think the harsh survival makes people more eager to make friends to aid in survival. In the vanilla servers supplies are jsut way too liberal so its just carnage all the time haha.
But the heavy modded servers are def the most popular which sucks for me. its corny playing a game "surviving" with a baretta 50 cal and pants that have marjuana leaves on them, then a honda civic drives by... it wasnt just "bigger guns bigger fun" for me, i enjoyed the unique interaction and stuff.
play nice, everyone...

I wouldn't call NWAF pointless now but yeah, it isn't partyzone anymore :steamsad:

i dont have a problem with akms/m4s and its suppressors being exclusive to the 2 static gaszones.
the issue u describe is just a theory. in theory u can spawn in berezino, collect the nbc gear nearby, go rify, stash, rinse and repeat. but the reality looks quite different. u said it yourself: "A lot of players arent the types to build stashes and save up NBC gear, gas filters, charcoal for dedicated runs to get these items".
also going to rify as banana man (the grey nbc gear only spawns in tier 4) is quite risky. freshies have access to sniper rifles/shotguns and its ammo straight at the coast.

and thats the bigger issue for me. the central loot economy is far from balanced. compared to the alpha version of the game, the character progress has reached lightspeed. u can fast and easy gear up being close to the coast. weapons with fitting ammo and magazines (and the military convoys and police situations now close to the spawnarea), endless canned food supplies, warm clothing, big backpacks... this is all available straight at the coast in a way too high amount.

vehicles work fine for me and they clearly have improved with the last 2 patches. they still run server-side, so there will be always issues if the network is bad.

and adding stamina was probably the best decision they made. + its adjustable for server owners.

play nice, everyone...

you should really create a pinned thread
and put all this type of stuff in there,

label it "Rants and Reviews" or "Strong Opinions"
same as you have with the "Surge of Hackers" thread

"You are pointless"

Cough. I'm sorry. That was childish of me.

"What an interesting thread topic you have chosen here. What could possibly go wrong?"
