Anyone can get your IP in a million different ways.
CC info no. Unless you give it out yourself.

false

anyone that can actually do that wouldnt be bragging about it in a video game

the best criminals never get caught cuz mo1 knows they are criminals, a kid pretending to be a baws will say crap like that to try and impress other ppl

steam has all our info including CC info, they are a multi million or billion dollar company and their security matches their investment or worth

your info od course isnt ever 100% safe but for the amount of work involved capable hackers wont risk steam, thye want much bigger targets than us : )

False. Hopefully.
If someone tells you in a game that they can do XYZ, assume they are liars.

Working in the tech industry I know of ways in where your IP address can be collected.
All of which involves you connecting to a server they are hosting, if they are the server admin in the connection log there should be your IP, if the log doesn't show the IP, run TCP View on the server while running the server and having clients connect and you will see the IP address.

Hackers are not really hackers, they are people whom have purchased cheat programs and scripts and are told to run them as per an instruction manual.
They couldn't hack their way out of a burlap sack.

hope this sets your mind at ease.

95% - 98% of game hackers fit this bill. Don't ever worry about threats. Make sure not to accept any sort of downloads from people you don't know either, that's just welcoming them in (THEN bad things can happen). Without getting something on your computer, they can't really do anything except make you sweat (unless you know better).

Thanks also Smurf that is Good advice :),

Steam keeps your identity safe, if in doubt rename your account and pretend to be a new person.

Hackers can always get your information if they are good enough at hacking. DayZ script kiddies aren't hackers, though. As far as I know, they don't even change anything but local files.

If you are talking about people being "hacked" inside the game, regarding gameplay (like losing all your gear, getting shot through walls and stuff like that) then that's something that is present and is being worked on constantly.

Anything else is complete BS from someone who thinks "hackers" in real-life are like the ones you see in movies. They aren't.

Real world hackers don't need to join a game to find victims. They have plenty of fish to catch by just sending an infected e-mail, or by putting up a mockup scam site that promisses to show some breasts.

i thought a real hacker might be able to compromise high level government style information systems...

apparently they setup websites with boobs and send spam mail offering you organ enlargement... learn something new everyday

thats how they work, since the mind of a human is stupid enough to believe most "enlargement" things on the internet (aka OLD people most of the time)

False.
Insomniac Jack Oct 20, 2014 @ 11:39pm
I doubt they can get your ip in game, unless they have some access to the server's host. Although it isn't very hard to get someone's ip from steam chat, teamspeak, skype, etc. But knowing someone's ip doesn't give you instant access to their computer.

A real computer expert most likely could , but why in the world would they? There are real targets out there, this would be absurd risk for very very low reward. It would be like a professional high-end art thief jacking a convenience store.
