How do I host my own server?
I rent a dedicated server through OVH, through this dedicated server I host several other games, but I've no clue on how to host a server for DayZ. Does anyone have any clue? Thanks.

That's what i used for a full year now. A bit expensive (but they all are) but runs otherwise smoothly.

Yeah, I'm not looking for a provider. I use OVH, a dedicated server. I just can't find the actual set up for hosting the server itself.

You can't host your own server since the devs are not releasing the server files. And I don't know if they will ever release them.
So, if you want your own server you'll have to rent one.

As far as i know, they haven't released the server files yet.

Ahh, that's a bit odd. So you can just do it through certain providers, but not through a dedicated server?

Exactly. They said they will release the server files to all upon launch though. So you will be able to do that, eventually. Also Mods, i presume.

Ah, thought I saw some people having "dedicated" in their server name. Guess they just uh, put it there...

Yep. Same reason you see "PvE" or "HIGH LOOT!" in server names. Admins have no control over this, it's just names.

Yeah, I know the "PvE" and "ULTRA RESPAWN LOOT HELI CRASH 24/7" bit, just didn't think many would think to put dedicated in there... lol

I guess they are like me and have no idea what they are talking about and just assume since it is their own server it's "dedicated" :)

Lol, maybe! The primary difference is on servers like Vilayer, BlueFang, etc. is that there are several different servers hosted on one 'box.'

A dedicated is simply 'your' (they can still be rented, as is my case with OVH) computer box that you have complete control over. It only hosts what you want it to, and is under your control rather than BlueFang's, Vilayer's, etc.
