DayZ game name not linked to Steam user profile

Was playing on a public server and the DayZ user name of the other person on that server was not linked to a Steam user profile.

Can anyone explain this anomaly or how that person hid, blocked or was able to not link their Steam user profile to their DayZ game name?

You can use any name in dayz... doesn't have to be your steam account name. For example I sometimes use ''Dr.House'' as my steam name and run around in paramedic uniform diagnosing people

When you ran DayZ for the first time, the game used to base your name on your Windows user account. That meant a lot of people called "user" or "admin" or "administrator" or people's first names.

I don't know if the names are based on your Steam name now, but you can change it to anything you want by clicking on it in the main menu. (This was also the case when the game came out.)

the amount of false abuse/flaming/flagging/reporting/name calling that would happen if you could link in-game names to steam profiles

if u bring up the steam overlay while in a dayz game and click on view players it will show a list of Steam user profile names (there is no way to associate the DayZ user name with the Steam user profile name if there is more than one person in the game [with exceptions] but there should be an equal number of Steam user profiles to the number of DayZ players on the server u r playing DayZ on)

the other person on the DayZ game server had no Steam user name or profile - that's the question

Unless I am mistaken, Steam user profile settings should just block other ppl from viewing ur profile and not make it appear as though u don't have a Steam user name or profile
