1911:
Shock (Head) = 20,000
Shock = 500
Damage (Blood) = -500
Damage (Health) = -200
Bleed Chance = 200%
Go with the 1911 because it has a faster fire rate and has 7 shots as opposed to the Magnum's 6. Magazines are rare at the moment but can be found through pertinacity. Ammo is more rare than the .357 but is easily acquired at the military tent sites. Either one will kill or knock any player out with at least 2 hits.
These stats are off of the DayZ wiki and, with a game currently under development, they may have changed but I have seen no evidence to believe that they have.
Same has happened with me when using the magnum. It's caused by desync. Your one-shot kills were probably due to shooting a player that wasn't at full health. Your personal experiences are too full of unknown variables to be taken as fact. The stats, however, don't lie. Please stop spreading disinformation.
At least with the Magnum, you don't have to mess around with Magazines, and speedloaders reduce the reload time of the Magnum.
Also, don't overlook the fact that the .357 rounds can also be used with the Repeater Rifle.
Given that information, tbh, it looks like a win win situation for the Repeater, Magnum and .357 ammunition.
