DayZ

possible returning player, worth playing? any alternatives?
Used to play this a lot back at launch a decade ago, why I stopped was zombies were never truly a threat like in the arma 2 mod, and overall lots of buggy mechanics with the cars and stuff.

I've been feeling the survival itch again lately, Is it any better now? or are there any new alternatives to play? preferably one where zombies or any pve enemies are a constant credible threat so when you meet someone cooperation is also an option and the game is not just a deathmatch but 90% of the time you're looting and walking.

It saddens me that these games died before hitting their ideal form, and imo the main problem was that none of them really ever pushed hard enough into the pve aspect as in the original mod, and battle royale games already perfected the rest of the game into a less time consuming version.

I would not say that the game is "dead". Far from it. Still getting updated, still alive forum, lots of servers, popular on twitch.
But I would like to see DayZ 2.0, but this still works. If you want to play on "good" servers, you should try out the community ones. Where they have active admins. The officials can sometimes have hackers/ESP'ers in them, and playing on a popular community server, is more safe since some of them have many admins looking out for honest players.

If DayZ is not for you, but you like zombie/apocalyptic suvival games, check out 7DTD. It is also very much alive.

Try my server, or find a server that runs mods that 'beef up' the infected. People die on my server a LOT, most people quit my server because the infected are 'too difficult'.

Lots of games sold millions of copies years ago and are dead online. That's how the gaming industry works.

I’ve been playing for about 3 weeks so far and honestly I’m not sure why I didn’t give this game a chance sooner. It’s just about everything I’m looking for in a survival game. I get The Long Dark vibes when out exploring, I love having to hunker down and sit by a fire. The hunting, fishing, and overall feeling of anxiety and nervousness that I could be sniped in the face at any given moment is awesome. I don’t know any of the maps at all really, and I think it makes me play extra cautiously…..probably too cautiously to the point where I’m not traveling far enough from my current “home”.

Not knowing the map was the best time in the game. When you've learned every square inch of it, a little bit of the fun dies forever.

Man, with how big Chernarus is, it blows my mind that anyone can really remember all of it.

I have a feeling I’ll be into this for quite a while. 😎

this game sold millions of copies this year alone and still has hundreds of full servers daily

why do you waste your time complaining and making things up about a game that you clearly know very little about

No, I didn't mean to say the game itself died. I meant the genre died in the industry and there are no new games giving a new shot at this "open world zombie survival crafting" etc genre like back in the day.

Well, there is still Scum to mention though it sucks so much due to recent changes and is so incredibly bug riddled that you can´t even reload your weapons without having the magazines poof away, so I really can´t recommend it. It´s brokenness is the reason why I bought DayZ two days ago since I have no hope left for Scum.
