I want to buy the game but scared
1. I hear that the game have so much hackers so if i buy it do i play on like community servers?
2. I have no friends to play with so is this game fun solo?
3. Is it more of PVP or PVE ?
4. Which edition should i buy since all of them on sale? Should i buy standard, deluxe or cool edition ?

Hi,

Don't worry about the hackers, i've been playing over 5 000 hours and mostly on officials and have not fell their victim ever but just to be sure, maybe you should play on the community servers but just to get a good feel on the game, it's mechanics and what is it about, don't play in heavy modded servers, look for vanilla or zero mod servers, they are out there.

This game is ok and interesting when played solo but groups are funny too and you newer know what comes ahead or where the groups journey takes you.

The vanilla game is PvP, no rules but mind your manners. Some community servers have safe zones and PvP zones and outside of those, only PvE is allowed, breaking those rules leads to possible punishment like server ban.

If the cool edition is on sale for lower price and it includes the base game + Frostline, then buy that, you'll get your money back in time or buy the base game and if you want to widen your DayZ experience by few new mechanics and map(s) later, you can always go back to the store and buy the DLC.

Lastly one thing to mention: i do host Frostline DLC or steam giftcard event in my server and i can't be the only one so if you buy the base game, maybe you'll get a chance to get the DLC for free by taking a apart in a lottery.

I hope this helps you and others in a same situation.

This is no absolutely true at all.

Maybe it depends where you live……

I’m in US and I’ve got around 1,200 hours and only once have I even contemplated if the way I just died was from a cheater.

Don’t listen to these people saying the cheaters are rampant. It’s not what it seems. And if it is, I’m somehow dodging it. But I do mostly play community servers which have active admins; I’ll admit that. Still have a decent amount of time on official and not once have I died to a cheater. The only time I *maybe* died to a cheater was actually on a community deathmatch server…..

Nope, your dead right, Cheats are vastly overstated/reported
by salty players who find out they are not game guru's after all.

Some people don't understand the difference between "somebody wallbanged me through a wooden door because they heard me" and "I got killed from downstairs in a concrete building"

Some things can be questionable, but some things are irrefutable

How about the "i was walking along and suddenly dropped dead" crew.
You would think that a player with over 1k hours would know that's
a "normal part of the game" playing official servers.. But no...
False reports are infact why we will always have cheats...
Way to many shadows to chase that lead to nothing....

To be fair, it is possible for it to be a cheater, but impossible to prove when playing solo

My friend and I were walking down a road one time when both of us dropped dead at the exact same time. At first, you'd think it was a 2-man team that coordinated their shots to take us both out at once, but when we returned to our bodies, we found that absolutely EVERYTHING was ruined and nothing was taken from our bodies. It's one thing for your clothing to be ruined, but it's an entirely different thing for all of the items inside your cooking pots/first aid kits/etc to be ruined as well. In order for that scenario to not be a cheater, we both would've had to die at the exact same time to a 2-man team, have them shoot our bodies to ruin our gear, and then leave it all behind

Like I said, unless you're playing with a friend to have a second point of reference, dying randomly as a solo holds no water when claiming you "randomly dropped dead" because it's impossible for you to know how you dropped dead

It's not as bad as some people say.
My base has been up for 2 weeks on an official Sakhal server.
I am now bored and wish someone would raid me to give me a reason to start over.

Be scared.

DayZ isn't a friendly game. If you can't embrace the unfriendly nature of it, then you'll hate it.

It's cheater, not hacker. Hacking requires some sort of skill and education.
But the cheater issue is no where as bad as mongoloids make it out to be.
You can play the game solo but can be a bit more challenging if you play PvP servers and come across a duo or trio. But never impossible. Also have the option for community servers with PvP. PvE or PvPvE.
Personally just by the base game. The DLC will be free in a couple years again.
A hacker means "someone who uses a hack". Cheats and hacks are mutually exclusive things. Cheaters aren't hackers.

And hackers aren't so special that they get a "special word" with a specific definition. In English, words are approximated to different meanings. I'm not sure if people getting hung up on the word "hacker" is some weird TV show meme or a reflection of ESL.

The point is that any cheater with a few brain cells will do it as subtle as possible. A dumb cheater is the one headshotting people with a Sporter from 300 meters or speedrunning through the map.

Just like user Santa Hoovy said, it is really difficult to know if it was a cheater or not in DayZ. I play both on Official and Community vanilla and on Official I often have shady deaths.

For example my most recent one:

I played with a buddy and we are really geared. We were walking past the quarry near Nadbor on Livonia towards this single house. It is pretty much the middle of nowhere with little to no interesting things around. The server pop was also 20 players including us two. I walk towards the front door, go in the house and suddenly I hear a sound near the front of the house. Was that a silent shot I asked myself? My buddy was literally still standing in front of the house. Standing still and scoping. I was like, if that was a shot, surely he would have been shot by now. I asked my buddy if he heard the same but he didn't (he is pretty new though). I still doubted the situation, looked a bit through the windows and then I moved outside with my gun ready, just in case. I walked behind the house, scanned the area, turned around to see if my buddy was coming and poof... I got one shotted in the head from the opposite direction (direction from Nadbor. We moved in from Roztoka directon) that we originally came from. It was odd since I heard a shot in front of the house and now I got killed behind it. I told my buddy and he went prone near a low fence near the front of the house. 10 seconds later he also got one shotted in the head. Even though he was in front of the house near a fence, prone and with multiple bushes around the house.

Low pop, middle of nowhere, shot in front of house but nothing after, both getting one shotted in the head on two different spots around the house in fast succession. A lot of things that make me think this was a cheater using ESP/aimbot. Can I know for sure? No, I can't and that makes it very difficult.

If you're the type of player who calls "hAcKs!" every time you die, this won't be the game for you.

More times than not you'll die under unexplainable circumstances. You won't know where the shots came from, how you were 1-shotted, or how they even saw you. That's dayz. If you can't accept that, then every time you die you'll be THAT guy on global chat crying about hackers.

I'm at 1200hrs in the game so far, and I do not believe that DayZ has a hacker problem. Take that as you may...
