May I ask a couple of questions though?
Is there really a need to stop the server each time you need to take a break?
When you say the game is crashing - do you mean the client or the server?
So to pause the game I need to exit to the launcher and then do the whole "Play" thingy again, which is rather long.
Don't hit play. You need to go to the LAN server list and join it through that.
mode, it's still a server.
Do you even know what a server is, what it does and how it actually works?
Lol, they are trying to pause a server..
Yeah, clearly an "expert".
Name ONE MMO that has Pause.
Which exists in many games which are host-to-client.
Well.. IS there?
Go on, tell us.
There isn't is there..
Making me right.
You started talking about a "single player mode" which absolutely nobody mentioned before you. You're making up fights to pick without them being there. I think you misunderstood what OP said.
They said that pausing the client doesn't pause the server. They also said that's how it should be. You apparently interpreted that as saying that it SHOULD pause the server, which is not what they said.
You've come into the thread, assumed someone is dumber than you, and instead of being helpful or friendly, you've chosen to try and make a mockery of someone over something you misread. You really put the ASS into assume.
FYI, "Pausing servers" is a concept which exists for games in other engines. It's not at all common, for sure. And it's usually some obscure command that will result in weirdness happening if you use it.
-Minecraft at one point could be modded to use a pausetick command which paused everything except the players. I believe it still has mods which allow the whole server, and clients, to be force paused.
-Project Zomboid also has similar functionality allowing the game to be paused if one installs a mod that allows multiplayer time stopping by admins.
-ARK has a global pause command that pauses the entire server, and the clients.
Many games have servers that also autopause when nobody is online, freezing all simulations. Granted, that is a different functionality, but it's not a huge leap of logic to ask if there's any such functionality for DayZ to be paused via server commands.
The difference is that DayZ's engine doesn't have the functionality for it, and would likely be impossible to mod in. OP is not stupid, or lacking experience in using servers, for not knowing that.
