Having said that, you're better off finding an empty server to play on if your only concern is playing alone. Running a server requires a fair amount of knowledge. I couldn't imagine console players having an easy time running their own server - I'm not surprised you had trouble.
You mention the expansion - are you talking about Livonia? Most Livonia servers (as well as servers for any map) are mostly empty. You'd have no problem finding an empty server to practice on.
Thanks for your reply :) when I say expansion I mean the one with the trader and stuff, we did mod our console server but that was a piece of cake…pc mods…completely different world 😂 it could be worth looking for empty servers but as I said we’ve already paid for one so really hoping we can get this one sorted
Infact list all of what you have installed so far.
Have you done it on console? There’s a website that you can go to and literally just change all the values of things you want then you export the file and just import it straight to the types file on the server, it’s that easy but on pc there’s a lot more to it, having to do all the alterations to files yourself rather than a website doing it all for you.
I agree or a low pop server with a friendly community. Normally I would tell some one coming from a pc background to start in Official PVP. But I think you guys need to start PVE. And I think starting at a community server that is newb friendly is what you need to start at.
The game has a huge learning curve, Although you should have the basics as they are the same as Console. I think you need to learn the mods and the options to start to understand the config files. Expansion mod is probably not the best choice for a newb server host'er as it is a more advanced mod.
There are a lot of good moded communities out there, Maybe even something PVE with a PVP zone(s). Having an understanding of what the mod does will go a long way when you are finally ready to host yourself. I am saying all this not knowing your level of knowledge with config files or pc gaming.
There is plenty of videos that will help you with server set up and everything else if you just look. But @l33tdood said, this is not something that is easy in any sense, and going in completely blind with little pc skills (if thats the case) Then you are gonna pull your hair out.
I would start with a private server, and one of two smaller mods. Getting them working and running right. Make them mod you may care about, like helping you live off the land and on the move. Or survival mods or whatever it is you guys are looking to build on. And once you get them working right and figured out, do a few more and keep pushing yourself. Good Luck.
