DayZ
FX 8350 4.2 Ghz Performance Fix
Hey all, like many of you AMD owners that have yet to buy Intel*face it, if your not using intel for Dayz & Arma 3, your just gonna get less fps* my fps has been an issue on this game.

However, after painful trial and error. I am getting a steady 30 to 40, sometimes 45 fps in the big cities and 50 & 60 + fps in smaller cities. 25 to 35 fps when recording on high using shadowplay in big cities.

My specs

GTX 980
FX 8350 4.2Ghz*Not overclocked
16GB ddr3 ram
SSD Drive game installed
*click my profile for rest of the tech.

Here is what I did to my game

1 Add this to steam command for the game launch

-cpuCount=8 -maxMem=8192 -skipintro -nosplash -nosplash -noPause

2. Unlock all your Cores*do it manually or use a program, that is up to you.

Restart PC after you unlock cores.

My DayZ.cfg is as follows

language="English";
adapter=-1;
3D_Performance=100000;
Resolution_Bpp=32;
Resolution_W=1920;
Resolution_H=1080;
winX=16;
winY=32;
winW=800;
winH=600;
winDefW=800;
winDefH=600;
refresh=60;
Render_W=960;
Render_H=540;
FSAA=4;
postFX=5;
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;
HDRPrecision=16;
lastDeviceId="";
localVRAM=2147483647;
nonlocalVRAM=1073676288;
vsync=0;
ssaoEnabled=1;
AToC=0;
SWLayersCount=0;
PipQuality=3;
PPAA=4;
Windowed=0;

My User name cfg is as follows

shadingQuality=100;
shadowQuality=0;
keyDropitem[]={};
keyMoveItemFromHandsToInventory[]={35};
keySosGesture[]={};
sceneComplexity=50000;
shadowZDistance=50;
viewDistance=1200;
preferredObjectViewDistance=1000;
terrainGrid=3.125;
gamma=1.0165297;
bloom=1;
rotblur=0;
brightness=1;
fovTop=0.75;

I run the game settings as a mix from very high and high in the open lands to normal when i get to a big city. Game looks decent and I can atleast keep a steady 30 + fps everywhere in the game.

Not too shabby for a game that is known to hate AMD owners and works better for Intel.

Basically, I am saving for an Intel CPU myself, but I hope this helps any fellow AMD owners.

*Before the why the GTX 980 with 8350 hate comes in, the fx 8350 is 2 years old bought for $80, the GTX 980 was a birthday/xmas gift, bills been my priority, so not had time to buy a new cpu, motherboard & ram.

yeah going over to intel isnt going to do anything for you until they at least optimize the game to not run at 15fps in cities on high end rigs

From what I read and from friends who own intel, while they do get poor fps from time to time, its alot less frequent than AMD.

But the real truth here, is not AMD or Intel. It is the poorly written & out dated engine being used here, wityh its DX10 still. Performance will always be crap. This is a fact. Unless they change or massively overhaul the engine, this is pretty much how it will always be-unless you wait to buy it on PS4, then a cap of 30 fps is about all your gonna get. But that is a good year or 3 away as well. And screw the PS4 with a Bat. PC Master Race Bishes! :D

this is BS, tried all this crap, and this is listed many times, on the internet, and on this forum, this is bogus, and does NOT WORK....if you have a amd fx 9370 or like my friend with a six core, you are SCREWED, do not get your hopes up, there are tons of people who have tried, TRIED AND FAILED, to get the game to run better on a amd fx cpu, it just is not geared for single core performance, this is complete, and TOTAL BS....but my desperation, for dayz, and my boredom, makes me try it for like the 100th time lol....

i could not look at and play with these limited settings:

sceneComplexity=50000;
shadowZDistance=50;
viewDistance=1200;
preferredObjectViewDistance=1000;

the game must look awful...

I use Intel CPU with these settings:
sceneComplexity=750000;
shadowZDistance=100;
viewDistance=2600;
preferredObjectViewDistance=2300;

I hate when I hike around chernarus and cannot see the hill on the other side but blue fog.
Lower view and ddraw distance help the FPS but kills the joy for me.

geez i dont know why people are having problems with dayz and their fx 8320 or 8350 cpu's i dont get as bad as fps as so many people are saying. and i dont get why peple are saying that dayz doesnt use most of the 8 cores that the amd cpu's have i get pretty much equal usage across the board. and with this new .57 update i am getting better fps than i had before on .55

As I said, AMD is not the best for this game, but BS? I provide proof with stats

And I have an 8350 8 core. And it 100% improves the 10 to 15 fps I had before

This is how the game looks

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUzP4Ev8RVU

This wasnt intended as a look around video, got into a gun fight and ran outta ammo, so I recorded my escape while playing music to hopefull draw attention to who was shooting at me, turns out it was the admin and I got kicked lol

But this should give some details of how it looks.

Many are just repeating the Intel fan boy chant of hate on amd. It is a known fact Intel runs this game better, I was just trying to help the AMD users out there maybe tweak a little to get some better fps

yeha i just dont get why you feel the need. you have your scenecomplexity at 50000 man i bet your game looks like crap

a bit suprised here that it looks pretty good even with such low settings
though the view distance is not so much visible in the video
whatever works for you :)

Well at least somebody out there is getting more then 15fps..
RedShirt Jun 23, 2015 @ 3:30am
Until this game utilises a decent amount of CPU cores the game will run poorly on AMD CPUs (not that it runs great on Intel either).
eXic Jun 23, 2015 @ 6:38am
I have nearly the exact same rig as you.
But i have only like 25-30 fps in town when i turn everything off and textures on middle.
Any sugestions`?

♥♥♥♥ i just wish i could get super early standalone dayz back. you know. before they added a kazillion useless items that just continue to bog the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass unoptimized game theyve been producing. i really hope with all the money theyve made on this game they pull their stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ heads out of their asses and make a decent product in the next 3 years. like holy ♥♥♥♥

Depending on the town, I get the same, regardless of what I do, You can see in the video my fps goes from 46 fps in the police station & dips as low as 22 fps at one point, but stays on average of 30ish fps when not recording.

The engine is poorly optimized and aside from tweaking what settings you can, thats roughly the best you can expect on current AMD cpus.

Ill make a few more videos later showing some FPS and stat usage and showing the view distance.

Its by no means great, but is 100% playable and still able to see incoming threats.
lordacrom Jun 23, 2015 @ 10:28am
try these settings:
shadowZDistance=250 (fixed the water pond edges)
viewDistance=1600
preferredObjectViewDistance=1300
