You may of course be making yourself ill by doing many different things. Are you eating or drinking with bloody hands. You could be drinking from an infected bottle that you have never disinfected that you collected from a diseased player.
There is a great guide by Asmodian infographic on the Wobo Tools website that explains what symptoms are due to which illness and how to treat them. Since that is by far the best source I will not try to explain them here as the infographic speaks for itself and is worth a lot more than 1000 words here.
As a DayZ vet the sickness ruins the game for me and it the reason I keep stopping. I come back every few years to see what has changed.
Find a modded server where there actually is increased medical and not just says it does. Or a modded server that allows some sort of banking system.
Also dry your clothes as often you can from rain, just drop them from hands in front of a fireplace or a bonfire.
Hope this helps.
