DayZ
What's a good modded server for a new player?
I've played DayZ before but not much and gave up because the game servers I was going into had no loot. I literally couldn't find anything to defend myself with.

For someone whos not played much, what servers do you recommend where there is lots of loot and good gameplay experience?

Perhaps enlarge a bit on what exactly are you looking for.
The selection of community servers is quite diverse.
Without knowing anything about you it is very hard to guess
what you would want.

That describes any server tagged as PvP.
You can get that from officials as well.
The launcher provides information regarding the mods it's running,
It's worth noting this as you can end up with a full drive very quickly
as some mods are huge.
Every launcher has filters as well that help weed out what you don't want.

Official servers I cant find anything but apples and cans and when I do find a gun no ammo..

Where can I find these servers then?

In the launcher press the "servers tab" then the "community tab".
Click on a server to see the server information, click on "more details"
for information regarding mods.
If you decide on a community server you will need to select the
"Parameters" tab then the "All Parameters" tab and enter the name
you use. Most admins on community servers will kick and sometimes
ban you for not changing your name from survivor.
They do this to make it easy to identify exactly who is causing any trouble.

This may help as well.

Be careful looking for servers, big problems with fake servers atm, literally 9000 community servers are fake, they look popular but they're faking their player count and then redirecting your connection to another server, they also get you to install mods that then force you to connect to their servers no matter what server you try to join.
Go for a server with maybe 5-15 players, no more than half the servers limit.

How do I know which ones are fake? There must be some servers which are legit known good. What are they called?

They have fake player counts, the IP address is the same in every server, they have the same mods, Skyfall, Dayzed.gg, BGZ. There are only a handful of genuine servers that have more than 50 players.
