Some buildings are not worth it and Chernarus is a massive ass map with a lot of dead zones. Go to Zelenogorsk if you're into dying fast.
As a general rule
Building supplies = storage cabins behind houses and industrial areas
Food and stuff to create rags = inside houses and on zombies
Weapons = Police deps and military places
Once I have a decent kit to defend myself I mostly roam storage cabins and industrial areas and I create bases in big cities where little apartments become redundant.
Here is a path I recommend to get weapons, meet players, and also it's good because you start mid map so you don't get shafted by spawns as much.
Just memorize the landmarks.
Yeah this is the best advice honestly because DayZ is one of those "Make your own adventure" style games. Just immerse yourself in the world and wonder if someone is hiding and about to kill you the entire time you're on even if they're on the other side of the map. You just never know what will happen. This game is the most fun with a friend or two where you just run around together and shoot the ♥♥♥♥ until some action happens.
Imagination is the key, without it you will get bored and end up on a
community server with 100's of mods that break all the time
and spend a LOT of time waiting for people to fix
Or if you hear goat or other animals, hunt them and cook them it's good way as items found in houses give little value as food.
This game is one of a kind, never experienced so much stress ( in a good way) when you hear some other player walking nearby, or car driving and you just hiding in some bushes.
What i find difficult is navigating, now when i find some village i open izurvive on google and just search for it and try to figure out where to go :)
Try more populated servers if you find no people, atleast half server should be filled i guess , i read somewhere that Livonia is harder but i find it easier maybe you should try it
