How to create your own private server to play with friends?
Hello we are 2 friends who wants to play together alone but we don't want to pay for server rent. So can we create our own server in our computer to play together?

You could always create your own server, or just join one of the MAAAANY unpopulated servers.
There is a wagonload of pretty good servers, that sadly dont really have a huge playerbase. Just join any server that doesnt have alot of people on them.
Even if there is 3 other people on the server, your chances of meeting them are very slim. But even the slight chances of "someone might be in the military area" adds SOOOO much tension to the game!
Just look for a empty communityserver and play there. ^_^
Chances of you liking it are pretty high, and who knows... you might find a new friend or two there! The community aspect of DayZ is HUGE. Dont hide on your own private server! go out there and find new friends! =)
You might die... but you also might find your new best "ingame buddy"!

Thats the thrill of DayZ.

Personally speaking, alot of what makes DayZ the game that it is, is instantly lost if the chances of you interacting with another player is zero.
All the "dangerous areas" suddenly are not dangerous anymore....
Why do you need a m4, when all you have to shoot is the 3 zombies that might be waddling around in a town?
No offense, but playing DayZ on a privateserver, without any other players, but your teammate..... get boring rather fast. It might be fun for 10 hours or something, but then you stand in Tisy military with all the gear in the worlds.... you look at eachother...... and then say... : "What now? But there wont be a answer to that question.... So you slowly loose interest in DayZ And shelf it like the other 30 games in your steam library.

Trying to play this game, when there is 99 other players around to interact.... to talk to... to hunt.... to stalk.... Thats what gets your heart beating.

The Rush of adrenalin, when you see someone running... priceless....
The dopamine, when you finally get your first kill, and get all that persons loot. ...OH BOY
All of the friends i made along the way of my 12+ years long DayZ adventure! All the interactions, all the laughs, all the anger.

I still play with 3 of those friends that i met in 2012 somewhere in the woods of Chernarus! That is over 11 years ago! i still play with them till this day!

(!Personal opinion!) Thats what DayZ is all about.

But hoarding tons of loot on a empty private server..... meh.....

Thats why i suggest playing on a community server that is rather unpopulated. Something like 2-10 players or something.
I totally understand, that you want a environment to learn the game together with your friend. But you can 100% do this on a rather empty community server. You probably wont meet someone there anyways. But even the slim chance of it happening, adds SOOOOO MUCH to the game and overall gives a purpose.

Sebi1106 has a good point here. Although it's not super hard to get one going, if you are hosting it on a home server (not the PC you are playing on) your going to have to make some adjustments to your router, and hopefully have a static IP address from your ISP.

It is however a really fun learning experience if you like coding a little bit! Be prepared for hickups if you are not familiar with basic coding, network management, etc. but it is pretty fun.

Using Omegamanager and CF Cloud is probably the easiest. It's how I got started hosting.

One thing to note however, you will need a 2nd Steam account AND DayZ license to do this without disconnect issues.

That's not true, if you are on a LAN the server will use the internal (private) IP address of the machine it's being ran on. (and without the need for a second STEAM acct. on it.)
Same for the client (game) side.

192.168 block of private (internal) IP's is the most common block with home network gear.
server (for example) could be at 192.168.0.3, with the game (client) at 192.168.0.2
With 192.168.0.1 being the router itself,

Someone connecting to the server outside of the LAN will use your internet gateway address 'routing' that traffic to/from 192.168.0.3 as well as to/from 192.168.0.2 (if playing)

And this is where dedicated servers can get expensive.
My first "dedicated" server was a collection of junk parts i had in my workshop.
Somehow i got them all together and working. This was fine for me and a few
friends but, For general public access you will need to do better.
As Lufty said, You need a second copy of the game on a second account
and a second P.C. AND pay the additional energy and internet costs.
It can often work out a lot cheaper for casual players to rent a commercial
server. One of the biggest costs of running a server is in the TIME you spend
on it if you do it properly.

If you guys like you can join my server - we are a PvE server low to medium population and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful.

Just look for Wolves are Gaming [NO KOS - PvE]

come test it out and learn the game if you are new.

True. My 2nd Fiber line, plus hardware, plus CF charges about $75 a month. It's cheaper to go with a host in the long run...I just can't stand not having root access to the server OS, so I don't go that route. I may swap soon though, as it is way cheaper. I think some hosts are under $45 a month for 40 slots.

Just a Clarification here, you do NOT need a Second Steam account and copy of this game to run your own Dedicated Server, you just need to be either familiar with SteamCMD to install the game and you have to Manually manage mods if you want them! (Copy from your PC over to server and rename) or which you will need anyways know how to write a Batch file to start the server meaning steam is not open on the server!

Good Luck!

Nope you don't, but, it simplifies everything and makes it more reliable.
I would not recommend running a 40 slot server piggybacked on your
P.C. For 98% of players out there it would just end in disaster..
TBH it is a bit "low rent"..

You don't seem to understand what Revenge®-uk* is saying...

You do not need 2 Copies of DayZ game to run a DayZ server .. You just need to have the Steam Client installed on the Server to be able to download and install the DayZ Server software. You do not have to "Own" Dayz game to host a Server (or Run the Server software), nor to download the Server software. And, you should be manually updating your mods anyway, so you know what is going on with your server. This is a simple copy to USB, transfer, paste from USB operation .. probably faster than updating a rental server manually.

As for "low rent", I guess as you envision a private server, being your 10 year old ex-gaming rig, maybe so, but some of us actually have Servers. You know, hardware designed and configured to do the job of a Server .. :steamfacepalm: .. and, fwiw, the hardware requirements to run a DayZ server are quite small. You could run (4) 40 slot servers on a Ryzen 7 (8 core/2 cores per server) with 32Gb of RAM and (2) 256Gb SSDs (2 Servers on each) .. the biggest limiting factor to server slots is Bandwidth, not hardware. Most home ISP's will give you a hassle if you have 160 slots of traffic 24/7, or you just simply won't have the actual usable bandwidth to host that many slots. If you have a single server, with 20 slots for your "friends", only running when you all play together, and you're not trying to make money selling priority que, even your home ISP should not be a problem.
