DayZ

does the flu kill now?
I hate the flu in DayZ. Terribly annoying thing in the game, can't avoid it, can't get rid of it. Well, in theory you can find medicine and vitamins, but it's all about chance and you'll get the flu back quickly anyway.

But ok, I learned to play with it. Using a balanced drinking regimen, the character survives. Health does not decrease. But after the last update of the game, in case of flu, health will start to decrease. And even if I have, I'm not thirsty or hungry. Is this really the case or am I doing something wrong? Does the flu, which in reality cannot be avoided, mean automatic death? I don't deal with medicines, as I already wrote, finding them is a huge coincidence, even in a hospital.

I'm going to stop playing DayZ, because this is past the point where the fun ends and frustration begins.

I am sorry for my bad English.

The game isn’t supposed to be easy so it’s not for everyone because it can be very frustrating when you first start out

Just watch some tutorial videos about how the illness system works and you will be fine

There are servers that have the illness system removed if you wanna go that route

Your only goal on a new character is to eat/drink as much as possible. Even more important than clothing.

clothing is pretty important because it helps keep and maintain your temperature which if it goes low its the main cause of getting the flu

i always make gloves face and head covering asap out of rags so nothing is exposed, anything is better than nothing till i can find better

Hi!
The flu doesnt kill you! You probably lost health, because your temperature was too low. The flu only drains food/drink at a higher rate than normal.

If you had the flu, you need to get rid of your facemask and Gloves, as they can be infected, and even if you cure the flu, you will get it back very fast.
If you stay on "white food/drink/temperature" and dry, you wont get the flu.
You can cure the flu, by eating to full Food/drink, or by consuming Multivitaminpills.
You dont always find Multivitaminpills in Hospitals. You find them in civilian buildings.

All illness can lead to death although usually from the prolonged effect of the symptoms. Suffering form the flu will greatly increase your use of hydration and food so you will struggle if not make it impossible to not be in a deficit if you sprint. If you let yoru character remain blue you will also have that same multipled use of hydration, food so again you will deplete your stored energy way quicker than remaining dry warm and satiated.

All ilnesses can be cured by gettig the starts to almost top out and that can take you a lot of time if you are ill and may necessitate you eat and drink in small portions and do not exerct yoru character by sprinting. It can take up to an hour of sitting near a well and with plenty of meat or mushrooms arounds you to take in small bites and gulps of water but it can be a better route to survival than a run to the next town with a medical in the hope you find the tetra you need. Shelter inn place can save your skin but also can either be the most boring hour of gameplay if no one comes by or the most nerve wracking if you are on a well trodden loot route and need to hole up by a well.

Thank you all for your reply. I'm not giving up on DayZ just yet. It's a great game, I enjoy it a lot, only the flu is really annoying.

The point I made above is:

Immune system is everything. The best way to boost your immune system is eating/drinking as much as you can. If your food/water indicators are in the White and full, even if you wear no clothing at all, you will never get sick.

https://wobo.tools/dayz-immunity-stat-checker-tool.php

Slide the apple and water bottle to the right and see how it raises your immune system.

I've put in a few days of playing now, and done really rather well at times and I really enjoy the challenge, but, the cold and flu (and food poisoning) mechanics are pushing me to look up "no sickness" custom servers. They suck all the fun out of any progress you have made, and for no good reasons.

You can put a whole day into making great progress, get well kitted out, have loads of food and water, to then get ill and die because you fail the RNG to find meds. OR, you can be struggling to survive , get wet (because it rains a lot and sitting indoors waiting it out is a) not fun b) a wast of my real life and c) boring) then you thin, AH! I'll make a fire and dry my clothes, but then stripping some branches gives you a cut, and you have no sterlised cloth, so you bleed to death, so making a fire is too risky - so you continuie damp, and catch a cold... (a magic cold for wet people)

Being cold doesn't give you a cold. It makes you more succeptable to catching the virus, but you can't get a cold from just being cold, And colds don't turn into flu if lef untreated in real life. If they are going to be ball breakers with sickness at least make it realistic (not to mention using antibiotics to cure flu......).

I tried waiting out both a cold and flu with good food and drink and a warm fire. Still died. That's not realistic, so hence I'm now going to look for modded servers. Shame really. It's just a game mechanic too far in an already very tough environment.

^^ Both of these together, that should be your starting goal. Getting your water and food up as fast as possible, while staying as warm and dry as possible. Best cure for illness - minimise your risk of getting ill. Because if you get ill, with low immune system, and it's something that needs meds (which are not always easy to find) you are on a slow timer to death...

The flu is an annoyance. It shouldn’t kill you. I won’t speak of the other illness which mandates an f11

First of all, flu doesn't kill you. The fever it causes drains your water stat faster though. But then you just have to drink more.

Common cold is caused by being in the blue temp. You can prevent it by wearing warm, dry, intact clothing. Antibiotics and multivitamins will cure, but you can also just eat and drink to get rid of it. As fresh spawn, going to the nearest well and drinking you stat to the max is enough to raise your immunity above the flu's threshold.
Wring you clothes dry and repair them, and stay under roofs or trees to avoid getting wer from the rain.

Wound infection is nasty when you don't have clean bandages or disinfectants. But then you must just steer clear of any situations where you might get cut.

Craft rag gloves to avoid hurting your hands while cutting bushes. Or use a tool.

Did you also realize that in real life you can't survive a 9mm round to the chest by wrapping it in a bandana?

When I have the flu in the game, I can't drink or eat much because I throw up everything. Then I will slowly die of hunger and thirst.

That's right, colds and flus are the worst thing in the game.
