Official Servers night time acceleration.
I have been changing between official and modded servers for the past few weeks. Apart from the loot addons, the thing I enjoyed the most playing modded, was not having eternal darkness. The official server I play on is set to 1.7x nightime, the modded one 4x. The difference is huge.
Now I don't really mean in terms of time but in gameplay. I don't do much in the dark as it is a surefire way to give away your position. I can load some mags, repair any items and maybe cook some food (if I can close the stove).. apart from that I just sit or lay on the ground and do nothing.
I was wondering if the people in charge of setting the "Time" would consider this after the next wipe. It may increase the player base. I don't mind an hour, but atm it's longer than the day...

Eh, don’t assume that what you prefer applies to everyone. I actually prefer nighttime most of the time. Aside from running into people with night vision, you can do some pretty interesting shenanigans in the night that simply can’t work during the day. Half the time I feel safer too.

Fair enough,... I would feel safe in the dark with NVG's too, but that isn't going to happen to most players, especially not on Official servers. I haven't seen a pair of NVGs ever on Official. Not even sure they exist...

I found NVGs in abundance lately on official, even had to throw some away.
I suppose though, that only happened because I already had a pair of NVGs...the spawn is (also) related to the gear you already own, sometimes mocking you :steammocking:

I find plenty of headtorches.. Never knew they were so popular. But hell if I am going to wear a "shoot me here" sigh on my head.

Yeah, I do t use those much. However, road flares in particular are a good option. Crafted torches can be as well in a pinch. However, I never carry these things. I pop them then toss them around, creating light I can use without them being centered on me.

Nighttime is the best time. In my experience most servers have way to short nights. The way dusk and dawn can combine with weather events really adds drama to the game as well as opportunities just not available to endless bright sunny days.

The only thing stopping players from playing at night is fear of death, which is inevitable anyway.

Enjoy night. Get out your torch. Leave light sticks in buildings and camp them. Set fires. Burn torches. Stop worrying about dying and enjoy it.

I tried moving around last night,....

I left the road to avoid detection, and promptly fell 15 feet and broke my leg..hahaha. I crawled for 30 yards, chopped some sticks and made a splint..then a fire.. I laid there for 30 mins until after the leg was healed. It was still pitch black..
I logged out and got some real sleep.
I understand that for any geared player nightime can be a boon, but for anyone starting out it's a challenge. I am no noob, but I find the night too long. Daytime accel is 6.someting ,night is 1.7 so I think the night is winning that one easily.

This reminds me back when they were first implementing the ability to throw objects, anything you threw would stick to most surfaces. I used to love going to the popular towns like Berezino and lighting up the streets with a few dozen crafted torches or road flares. Watching players walk down the streets, confused as to why the whole town was lit up was just great.

Night has always been the best part of the game. You just have to let go that fear of dying and have fun with it.

I hate no stamina. I don't care about traders. I do like a few extra guns, as the Vanilla guns suck.. but apart from that I'm not fussed about mods. I play modded because of ping issues. If you had read my post, you would have read that. I get kicked from official with an average 120 ping, because of ping spikes about every 30 mins and that gets annoying pretty quickly.

dont care about traders? they ruin the game. towns are ghost towns. modded casual ♥♥♥♥ like The Wall and 90% others ruin the game.

I played on a modded server where all you could buy were storage containers like barrels, a few meds, no bandages, some small tools, but no locks and such. It was good to have to go and loot for things normally. No nails either. The trader also only bought furs from animals, so that was the only way to earn money. Was interesting.

there are alot of good modded servers, but because they are vanilla with some cosmetics, etc. The majority of them are hot trash. Its only good if it follows the vanilla base game.

Dude, I agree wholeheartedly with what you are saying. Too many mods remove the "feeling" DayZ has.
I would play official if I could.. but it does my head in how often I get kicked. Strange that the modded server I play on is also in Singapore and has no issues... so go figure. I don't have the choices due to my Thailand location at the moment.

Oh I feel you on that one. Once I spawned at night just north of Svetlo. I fell off a rock, broke a leg, crawled to Svetlo when I couldn't make a splint. Caught a cold, managed to find enough apples, water, and meds to survive. I went on to built a simple base, and a car with that toon. One of my most memorable lives. Some lives are more immersive because they survived difficult situations. Yet, like everyone else I died, got raided, lost my loot, and had to start again. New life, new adventure! DayZ!

Still, I get that sometimes its difficult to sink the time and patience into a masochistic endeavour but then I hate to think that I gave up and took the easy option for quick action. Too often the hard route really paid off in terms of immersion. We should all be struggling both night and day, in all weathers, against the infected, and the rotten humans inhabiting the map. Not running around in the sun collecting items and polishing other players knobs. :) Of course I don't expect everyone to agree with me on that. Your all free to get out your Brasso. :)
