The new DLC is relatively cool and it's more than just a map but still.
Regardless, your post is the embodiment of "If I had it bad, then everyone else has to". Should people that buy games at full price on release be compensated if the developers decide to reduce the price of the game in the future? Should people get compensated if they bought the game on a 50% off sale and the game goes on a 60% off sale next year? Should people get refunded their money if a developer decides to make their game free to keep for 24 hours?
You got to play Livonia nearly 5 years ahead of everyone else, so what exactly are you getting cheated out of? If anything, you should be happy that the door was opened to people since I'd imagine sales leveled out for it, so it wasn't going to be getting much more, if any, new players
Nah, it was a relatively recent purchase.
It sucks if you bought Livonia a few months before it went free, but it still was around 10 euro (on sale), which is the same as a couple of beers in a regular bar in my capital city.
But, still it sucks. So I get that.
But now you bought Frostline, which is only out for 2 months, so I don't see the point of this topic. As you can probably figure out, this DLC won't go free in the next 5 years or so
It sucks to buy a game & getting past the refund period only for the game to be on a 50% off sale, but that doesn't make it a bad game nor a bad development team because of it. From a financial standpoint, it sucks for me to know that the ~$150 worth of DLC I bought on PAYDAY 2 over several years is now available in a massive legacy bundle for a mere $30, but I don't care whatsoever because it opened the door for thousands of new players to buy & play the game
If all you do in life is wait for the best deal on something, then you're never going to enjoy anything because there will always be a better deal in the future, so accept the fact that you paid for it and move past it
COD still sell their 10 years old games full price lol
I cannot recall them giving stuff for free even if every single game is basically a 70$ DLC, which is a beast that we should not be feeding.
10 years ago the idea of a 100$ mount in WoW would have been beyond ridiculous. It still is, but not as much because of the whales who have been normalizing it.
We can point at different business models and claim that x is normal, but it's always relative.
Another example of that is Everquest, which just released a $35 expansion pack (for a 25 years old game!).
At this point, we're just paying extra for devs to maintain this "legacy" game experience for us.
The reason it works is because they know we are here for the experience we can't get elsewhere.
And that is genuinely one of the most idiotic decisions on their part because nobody's gonna be paying full price for 10-15 year old CoD games, much less games on PC that have next to no player base
Using extreme examples like CoD & whales who overpay for microtransactions isn't going to accomplish anything for you because nobody in the room is arguing that what they're doing is good
It has nothing to do with anyone's business models, but rather that, once you purchase something and the return period expires, they owe you NOTHING regarding what you paid for it. If they really want to, they could make the DLC free 5 minutes after your return period expires and that's perfectly legitimate because they're not required to accommodate for you when pricing their own content
LESSONS LEARNED
- Getting mad because someone got a better deal than you accomplishes nothing
- Developers don't owe you any form of compensation regarding what you paid for their content if they decide to reduce the price or make it free
- Using extreme examples to prove a point isn't going to convince anyone of anything
