One of the things I don't get why they added. If we could climb on snow/ice covered mountains with it, cool or break a hole in the ice to fish etc. Unless they just added it to be the new "Axe"
I agree. Or they could have the ponds freeze and thaw, depending on the weather conditions.
It's just another melee weapon. Unfortunately, the game is really held back in many ways by it's engine. Some things the game just can't do. I can't see the engine being very suited to a rock climbing mechanic. And I don't think it belongs in the game, either, to be honest. But simply breaking a hole in the ice to fish,or gather water would make sense.
I absolutely love the game. But I feel like, with every update, they move the game closer and closer toward the easy. And their updates are slowly killing the immersion in the game. Simple changes that they make, have a huge impact in that regard.
Remember when players would tap the "Check Pulse" command to make their character tap another player on the arm while talking? The developers removed the ability to do that for some reason. It might not seem like a big deal, but it's the little things like that, that made the game feel so realistic and immersive.
Then there was the "nerf" to thawing items. They made changes in Frostline that also effected modded maps like Namalsk. Instead of setting our food cans by the fire to thaw, we can now just keep them in our inventory. Same with clothing. We no longer have to set them by the fire to dry.
They "nerfed" fishing, by making it FAR too easy to craft hooks now, Before you had to either find a real fishing hook, or you had to craft a hook out of bone. Which meant to you had to kill a player or an animal or, at least, come across a corpse. Now you can simply turn one Short Stick into 2 fish hooks.
Idk.. I just feel like they're slowly dumbing things down more and more with each update. =(
They changed it because it was silly but funny to do before, with an animation of you like picking up an object.
Yes, you can "Check Pulse", but it is now an ability that requires you to hold the button down, and it makes you kneel down and touch their foot, for some reason.
Before, it let you tap their arm while talking to them, or to get someone's attention. I didn't think it was silly at all. People talk with their hands like that in real life all the time.
It just made player interactions and communication really immersive, and organic feeling. At least, it did for me.
The closest I can do to it, now, is just tapping my Greet key and then quickly tapping it again to make my hand come up toward someone and then drop back down.
I know not everyone cares about these sorts of things.
It's simply making the process of acquiring food to be less esoteric.
In the end, the difficulty comes from the PvP.
I'm also missing the old check pulse animation. As for the easier fishing, I don't think it has a significant impact on vanilla servers since food is already easy to acquire. While it may seem like it's making things easier (even if it does make things easier), I don't believe this reflects the general direction the game is heading. In the last update, they significantly reduced inventory space. This had a huge impact on gameplay, and certainly not in the direction of making things easier.
Yes, but if you make the survival aspect a mute point, and the only difficulty is "from the pvp", then the game just gets closer and closer to being another Rust or PubG.
