If I'm running on the main road and the water (ocean) is to my left, that is going North, right?

The coastline runes N/S and E/W without knowing any towns you're near I couldn't tell you. BUT if the ocean is too your left, you'r either heading South or West depeonding on where you are on the road. If you're in say... Elektro and the coast is to your left you're running W if you're in Solnich and it't oo your left you're headed South.

East coast, if the ocean is on your right you are going north

South coast if the ocean is behind you you're going north.

You have to know if you are on the east or west coast



Look at the time of the server before entering

If it is in the morning the sun is in the SE . if it is around noon, it's south . . if it's in the afternoon, it's in the SW . . .

In general terms if the railway is on the opposite side of the paved road from the ocean then you are on the East Coast. So if the ocean is on your right side you are heading North.
On the South Coast except where the tracks cross the road between Elektro & Cherno the paved road is on the far side of the tracks from the ocean. :j

Helpful, but overly complicated. Try this instead...

If the ocean is on your left, and the sun is somewhere in front of you, you are heading south.

If the ocean is on your left, and the sun is somewhere on your left, you are heading west.

If the ocean is on your right, and the sun is somewhere to your right, you are heading east.

If the ocean is on your right, and the sun is somewhere behind you, you are heading north.

Likewise, if you can't see the ocean...

If the sun is somewhere in front of you, then you are heading south.

If the sun is somewhere to your left, then you are heading west.

If the sun is somewhere to your right, then you are heading east.

If the sun is somewhere behind you, then you are heading north.

that depends on the time of day.

Morning it is on your right as you go north, mid-day it is behind you as you go north, afternoon it is on your left a you go north.

Again . .time of day dictates where the sun will be.

One has to know the time on the server to be able to use the sun .

Early in the morning it will be almost due East . . Late in the afternoon will be almost due West . . so 1pm will be SSW. 11am will be SSE etc.

www.dayzdb.com/map (Just find a road sign and match it on the map) Loot spawns are kinda out dated but it's helpful for knowing where you are/and or heading. Once you get used to things you'll know which way is N,W,S,E etc..

Find a compass becuase i really don't have the patience and or time to explain a simple thing like this.

Just look and study what way the clouds are moving no matter where on the map you are and you'll always be able to find north. (The clouds in Chernarus always travel from the west to the east with the wind).
