Hearing voices of players from afar?

I'm kinda freaked out. I was walking in the woods on a hardcore server and suddenly I hear some guy asking his buddies if they could hear him or something. He was talking about how he was in a town with a bunch of buildings and when I talked in direct there was no response so I'm pretty sure he was far away. Is there a glitch where you can hear other players from across the map?

I had no programs like teamspeak or anything with voice chat open and this guy was definitley playing Day Z on the same server as me.

It probably means that they were not as far away from you as you thought.Hearing other players generally means they are in the vicinity

Nah I've had this problem before and it's the same with text chat. You can literally be in the middle of nowhere and hear people who are seemingly all the way on the coast. It's pretty weird. I was thinking it could be the server admins using some sort of global chat but I dunno. It's definitley not someone nearby though.

Yeah, some people are for some reason using the side channel.. Which shouldn't exist in this game. Don't know if it's a bug or hack.

I believe it's a bug, there is no side channel in-game atm, but I've heard people talking over global channel before, It happened to a friend of mine before and we were on skype together, and he decided to start messing with people in the server. Sometimes for some unknown reason, every once in a while (VERY RARE!!!) when you key the mic to talk in direct chat, you can speak in global, not sure if you have to be dead or not though, as I can't remember. Bug definately

I have heard people chatting in Global before. Shortly there after, I saw another person in text global yelling at them to stop.

while on my way to the nwaf i ran past the base near vybor. there were only 2 people on the server . me and 1 other person . but, as i got closer to the wall around the base i started to hear voices. at leat 3 people talking. checked again still just the 2 of us on the server .
not sure if it was a glitch or some hackers waiting for someone to show up .
