Bandwidth in game, What does it mean?
Yeah I give up.

I searched the forums and google and couldnt find the answer.

Can anyone specifically tell me what the in game (Press P) bandwidth #s mean?

I have seen people with 25 ping and 100 bandwidth, and seen 25 ping and 1200 bandwidth.

My internet connection is/has been garbage for a bit now...(They are still trying to fix it after 3 service calls this week)

I thought maybe this was just the kbps connection bandwidth the player had to the server?

Anyways, any info would be appreciated!

I'm not exactly a server/network-guy and my terminology is.. simple. But basically:
Latency and bandwidth are two different things. Latency(ping) determines the delay between data transfers, while bandwidth is the amount of data transferred.

Someone will likely explain it better than I.

Bandwidth describes the maximum data transfer rate of a network or Internet connection. It measures how much data can be sent over a specific connection in a given amount of time. For example, a gigabit Ethernet connection has a bandwidth of 1,000 Mbps, (125 megabytes per second). An Internet connection via cable modem may provide 25 Mbps of bandwidth.

Thank you for the responses, but I am aware of the definitions of ping and bandwidth. ( I have a degree in IT )

The window shows just shows a number, and I was wondering what the unit of measure such as Mbps or Kbps was...or if it was some other kind of aggregate or derived #?

I guess I just want to know if high is good or if low is good if nothing else 8-/

So, I've been doing reserach on this myself lately using Netlimiter to see how much and when DayZ is using less or more bandwidth.

Example #1: My Bandwidth have gone up when a player is approaching in the distance

Example #2: I can have a constant high bandwidth usage at the airfields and I've scanned the area with the binoculars and have seen nobody (maybe loot is casuing a higher usage?)

I've been to Reddit, and this forum and used Google to search for this and have yet not stumbled upon an exact answer.

So, if someone have more info, please share! :)

The bandwidth number is kbps.

The more items you have, the higher your bandwidth as well as the items within your network bubble.

So if you are in the middle of nowhere you will have lower bandwidth than if you are in an area with a bunch of loot that your bubble has loaded.
