DayZ

Tips for finding loot for new players,
So I picked up Day Z yesterday and currently I have had many unsuccessful beginnings in the game - I can’t seem to find any food, water or items on my playthoughs(unless I run to the big cities) I am on a heavy loot server and I understand that other player may of raided the houses before me.
So instead of running around the outskirts I ran right into the hills, I discovered many houses with unopened doors and again too my surprise, no loot, nothing.
Currently my experience of this game has been a running simulator with flashes of disappointment after finding nothing, and then dying of starvation.

Any handy tips or advice on where to look (how to get there)
Good servers ect.
Appreciate any responses.

I mostly search for servers with 13-14 players on them, And then i Run into electro or Cherno and just loot the big houses, Firehouses, supermarkets and then I bail, good spot for loot is the Balota airfield, focus on the barracks to the west and the radiotower. Hope to see you in game and good luck.

My advice for being a new player is going on a low population server and learn the game that way , the experience will pay off when you figure out the ins and outs of the game .
Then once you understand what houses and buildings have food , etc , then go into a high pop server and more than likely die from a KoS .

Screw all that , i have been in a low pop server for weeks and learning as the game progresses with the new patches and all .

Then when it becomes complete i will know the map by heart and go from there .

Good luck

Just bad timing on your part. Not long ago players could force loot to spawn but that has been removed. Loot only spawns on a server reset now so if it's been active for a couple of hours then forget trying to find anything on the coast where everyone spawns.

This on the official forums probably explains it better: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/172799-food-where-is-it/?hl=%2Bloot+%2Bnot+%2Bspawning#entry1763860

Don't give up on DayZ though as it's still in aplha and will change a lot very quickly (I'm still hoping for zombies to drop loot at some point).

Use that map, find an emptyish server with like 1-10 people, (night time servers mostly have 100% loot) and go from there, also if the doors are open, someone probably has looted it already.

Cheers for all the responses appreciate them - tried using some of the tips so far and been unsuccessful still

I ran straight into the hill, all the way to a village, again all doors closed and no loot
I tried server hopping hoping to find a refresh and again to my luck no loot
after running for around 20 mins(currently this game is more running then anything

) I found myself in another town so hopefully I have some luck there and server hop as much as I can.
Currently though I just can’t see the point in going to any villages, where the towns seem to be the only place I can seem to find loot or items.

It’s getting fairly irritating at the moment after 4 hours I have found 1 can of food(again only in the town) and no bottles of water or a container - shot once by a bandit with my other deaths from starvation, with most of the hours just running to places(so much running)

what could be easier than server hoping?!

(find an empty server and move to desire location)

Elektro or Airflied and etc....

you just log into the empty server and loot!

then go to another one!

and so on!

Some buildingd spawn little to no loot and aren't worth searching, stick to the larger ones that have at least 2 entrances.

I agree with OP and posted a couple threads yesterday after hours of playing, going thru over a hundred houses (total), only to find a pen, shovel, rotten fruit. PPL say head inland, but when you spawn in the three valleys (or whatever that's called on the map), then heading inland doesn't have anything, nor does going north. the spawn point in the valley, if you look on the map has nothing going for it and only starvation on the menu. I think the smart people are logging out somewhere inland where they know the picking is good and they stick with that and haven't been killed yet and starting back to the valley.

Little bit of a update for anyone interested.

I spawned back in the fire station at electro in a high loot server with 1 other player at 6am in the morning - raided all of electro for loot, made my way to Chenogorsk, raided many buildings there and made my way to Balota to gear up with militrary weapons - character is all geared up now accept for having no rounds in my gun(bandits wont know that though)

It does suck that I have to go on dead early in the morning just to gear my guy up, alot of the fun is running into people and slowly building you character then straight away getting all the basic equipment - still Alpha is alpha and hopefully they will improve upon this.

Thanks for all the useful responses guys, really helped me out.
