DayZ

Playing on the same computer with another account.
Today I had a friend over at my house that wanted to show me something on dayz and I was wondering about something.

As he logged into steam on his account and onto the game it still showed my name in the bottom right and my character in the screen which had me a bit confused because I would expect it to switch to the other account.

A bit worried we did log in and it suddenly showed "You are dead" in the screen. At that point we had him not click respawn and instead shut the game down, load back onto my steam and when i logged back in dayz it showed my character again and I could play without having lost anything.

My question is this: Can you actually login with another account even though it will say "you are dead" and spawn and then go back to your own account? Or will that delete (kill) off my character when I decide to play again?

It should be possible but reports suggest that the implementation is not working as intended.

your characters should not be affected by other steam accounts on the computer , each steam accounts character is saved on the hive so 2 steam accounts on 1 computer should always have different characters

Verify your game cache after switching account.

I could imagine, because DayZ saves the windows profile now (Documents/DayZ) you can simply rename the folder and then start the game with your new account.

Sacriel42, a DayZ streamer, plays with 2+ accounts in DayZ to ensure less time on finding gear as a fresh spawn. Maybe you can ask him how he handles it.

Thank you for the replies. I was actually looking into making a copy of the dayz folder to see if that could work, might be a good solution.

I will admit it still confuses me why it would state that the character would be dead on the other account, friend was over here to ask me to show him around and he had not even made a character yet so I am guessing it showed that because the game was thinking my character was in there. But it is a bit odd.

Thank you for the tip there flow, as much as i generaly dislike asking streamers questions like that because they have a busy schedule to begin with it may help out in this case.

Edit: I did end up sending Sacriel a message on twitter about it but no answer yet. However another topic i found after some more searching states that snce they implemented the name change in one of the previous patches you now need to use a second windows account to use another steam account on dayz. (It's a workaround at least I suppose.)

Your character is saved on the dayz database. however the character you see on the menu is saved on your computer. so if you switch accounts you will see your character on the menu but when you play it will be the character of the account you are logged into. this will also replace your "preview" character with the one from the account you are logged into. so in your case your friend logged in and his character died. then you logged in and your character was safe.

I have 2 accounts on 1 pc and generally it works fine. You always tend to see the previous accounts player at the main menu but when you log in NORMALLY it works fine. Yesterday my switch didnt go well. I logged off my 2nd account and logged into my primary. In game was my secondary player loaded up along with his location. Now i cant seam to log into my primary players location and loadout. Verifying files doesnt work . I think i might have to actually log in my second account with my 2nd pc and force my primary to load. Its an ip thing.
