Car Tents and Camping Tents Behavior (0.58 EXP) aka Pitching a Tent
So after yesterday's reset of the EXP servers I was able to find both a 3-man tent and a car tent. I quickly ran off to set up a camp because for my playstyle getting a camp and exploring the persistence of 0.58 is more important that playing Call of Duty in towns.

Right off the bat I'm noticing how the tents behave and I thought we could share notes here because I can't find much on the internet about them.

o It is possible to build a campfire in the car tent with no ill effects.
o Items in the tent inventory got wet when it rained but dried out after I started the fire (and after the rain stopped).
o For some reason, the simple campfire I started in the tent is still burning 20 minutes later even though it only had three sticks for fuel
o The inventory of the car tent is listed at 168 but you can only see the top half of usable slots. I have't found out how to scroll down and use the rest of the inventory and this seems like a bug. Right now I'm using 86 of the claimed 168 inventory so for practical purposes you can only use the inventory you can see.
o Although the tent's inventory items do get wet when it rains, it seems that anything on the ground inside is protected. I took my character's damp Magnum out of my inventory and laid it on the ground inside the tent (the fire is still burning with the three sticks 25 minutes after starting it). Immediately it went to Dry status.

On my 3-man camper tent, when I found it the status was damaged but it was easily mended by holding it while in packed form and dragging a sewing kit over it.

(Edit)

I noticed when looking for a place to pitch the tents that you will probably have a harder time than you initially think. Places with trees nearby or on too much of an incline will not allow you to pitch the tent. I experimented with this for about 10 minutes but eventually ended up in a little bit of a clearing, sacraficing much wanted concealment from trees.

Want to Team Up and take over Chenarus? I have been checking on EXP testing peristence, tents, very interesting on restarts too. I have not seen either the big military tent or the car/truck port. The Barrels are bugged too unfortunately and you cannot move them now or if there is a way I have not found it. I also usually try to explore and test stuff introduced and you can now survive on the land easier. I've seen a few people, killed once, killed one guy and helped 2 guys so far you can see the differences in .57 Unfortunately lag is there desyncs are not happening for me on a steady basis.

@ Deus, thanks brother but I'm more into the scavenging / hermit playstyle, hence the obsession with tents and persistence.

I went full OCD hoarder once the mil tents came out and started setting up my camp out past the edge of the map. The one below is the biggest one I ever did (and yes I filled them).
Interesting thing is, every time I set camp past the edge of the map the server changes from 1st & 3rd person to 1st person or vice versa.

Setting up a new one today, ill let you know what happens.

Same here Crooked. IF we're plaing on the same EXP server I won't KOS hermit/scavenger types. I had some seriously interesting meetings yesterday. Taking the time to just play and not KoS random people. You get some interesting stuff that happens.

Finally found a gas can and so I grabbed a V3S and moved it to my camp. Should last until the next EXP update, hopefully at least a day or so away.
Speaking of KOS, I was running through Dubrovka in the middle of the night and I hadn't seen anyone for a couple of days so my guard was down when I turned and someone standing in a street shoots twice and missed me. Of course I panicked and mashed buttons and ended up in a firing stance when I wanted to run instead... I lived, though...

Do the tents dissapaer on a server restart or is it just during weekly maintenance?
CrookedTube Aug 1, 2015 @ 1:47pm
@Plunge. Some of the restarts are resetting the server inventory, so everything not on the character is wiped. It's still worth it, for me at least, to get used to the changes in the game. Once they move .58 to stable I will probably go over there so I don't have to make my camp repeatedly.

Yeah totally understandable. I would rather wait until its on stable and completely persistent myself. The draw for me is not having to completely gear up from scratch when I die.

By the way, the V3S do not handle the same way they used to. Seems like turning is slower and there is more acceleration and power, making them easier to crash. Definately recommend practicing driving them now as you don't want to crash one with all the pain involved in getting one started in 0.58. Also, since they have more power you can get them into wilder places. For example, in .57 I had driven one to the SW military base and it didn't have the HP to ascend the southern exit road.

CrookedTube after yesterday's small update (112 MB I think) did it wipe out any pitched tents again? I had one but I really should have just carried it in my backpack. It will be nice to have EXP settled enough (45 days plus up to .59 patch) Brian mentioned so we should have camps for a while. Anyways did it wipe out tents on Friday after the update?

Keep on Truckin'

The 45 days limit is a buffer until 0.58 Exp is pushed to Stable branch. It is expected to happen much earlier, it has simply added some time for unexpected problems. Such a long timer is needed as those containers cannot be refreshed atm by interacting with them or their contents. So a tent would have to be emptied, picked up and pitched again to refresh its timer. This issue will be fixed when 0.58 hits Stable, and persitency timers will be back at old values. What is also important, the fix will also allow BI to change the timers remotely, without the need to update client.

It also allows the use of a tent for that 45 day buffer limit for .59 to hit EXP too. That was mentioned in the same report.

@Deus If I remember right, teh Friday update did wipe all storage items except what we had on our characters. I agree, it will be nice to get this moved to stable so I won't have to find this stuff again. Besides the V3S (two) and car tent my favorite item was the military tent, which I haven't found again after the storage wipe. Also, I noticed last week at one point that my stone oven dissapeared even though the fireplace remained. It was a bit of a pain as I don't carry a pick and had to go find one in order to get the stones, again.

We'll get there, though.
