DayZ
How to get better performance in DayZ
Steam’s launch options allow you to supercede the internal settings of whichever game they are applied too. To access launch options, you need to right-click on DayZ within steam and select ‘Properties‘. Now select ‘launch options‘ and you will be presented with a single line text-box. There are a few different launch options that are useful here.

-nosplash – removes the Bohemia Interactive splash page, letting you get into the game faster.

-noPause – gets you into the game faster.

-cpuCount=8 – set this to how many cores your CPU has. Most systems are either 2 (dual-core), 4 (quad-core), or 8 (octa-core)

-maxMem =8192 – set this to the total amount of RAM your system has, 2048 for 2GB, 4096 for 4GB, 8192 for 8GB.

So your launch options within the box should look something like this: -cpuCount=8 -nosplash -noPause -maxMem=8192

I believe the max you can set "-cpuCount" is 4.

Depends how many cores.

4th generation cpu (intel i7) have 4 cores and 8 threads, so max cpu count is 4.

but bottom line this seem to work well thks

-cpuCount=4 -exthreads=7 (for an i7 processor)
your launch options should look something like this:
-cpuCount=4 -exthreads=7 -maxMem=8192 -maxVram=2048 -nosplash -noPause

Also, by default an i7's cores are "parked" so when the cores are needed/utilized there is a bit of hesitation before they are utilized. This was done by intel for power efficiency reasons (Energy Star Rated) You can't unpark your core's from within your OS but you can download and run this program to unpark your cores indefinately and you will get a small performance boost out of your processor.

I've checked FPS with and without CPU count, it doesnt make a difference.

The game doesnt take advantage of multi-core CPUs, yet.

seem interesting, noob question; i run on a laptop that get cpu to heat quickly when playing games, will un-parked it make my cpu heat more? thks

it shouldn't make a difference... the only thing that's really effected is power consumption.... you can throw that energy star rating out the window lol but if you're going to be gaming for long periods of time especially with the summer coming up you may want to invest in a heat sink.

yo just wanna say thks for the codebag link, just unparked 4 of my 8 cpu. was easy and simple to do!

u should spread that information cant belive they remove half of our cpu perfomance just for saving energy,

and ya i just throw that energy star sticker out the window lol

thks again bud

No problem man glad I could help... but with that laptop cooler you can buy "better" more expensive ones but the one I posted got good ratings and it's only about $20 instead of almost $100.... but look into it do your homework and pick one that's best for you... -Cheers man

Parked essentially means Idle...if your computer needs them, it will unpark them.

However there is a delay that can cause performance issues when switching states from parked to unparked.

Again, DayZ desnt take advantage of Multi-Core CPUs, and mostly runs off a single processor, so its very doubtful this would do much for you.

Worth a shot though, just be sure to test your FPS properly before and after.

i am play on i7 and ... " -exthreads=7 (for an i7 processor)" .... was slow performance
I read a lot of articles and set -exthreads=5 .... and it helped ...

I had read that ...
-exthreads=7 - CPU responsible for loading textures,
mathematical calculations, reading files ...
-exthreads=5 - CPU responsible for
mathematical calculations, reading files ...( GPU for loading texture)
I don `t know if this is true but I helped

cool.... doesn't hurt to try rite? Thanx... I've seen so many different posts on this subject as well-

Unfortunately until this game is optimized, it's a weird juggling act to push your GPU/CPU enough to get them to do the right things.

So test everything you can...but make sure it does something for you.

Many people throw in tweeks that do nothing, or stack up so many tweeks that it causes issues in one way or another.

I don't think increasing the used memory to a value over 2047 actually does anything at all. Afaik, the currently used engine supports 2047mb as a max anyways, anything above gets reverted back to 2047.
