how far do bullets go

i just want to know if im wasting my ammo cause i was on top of the hill to the NE of electro and was sniping i had a mosin with a long range scope and i was shooting at people and zombies. i shot at a guy on the school and idk if i hit him or not it was unclear but the zombie near the grocery store..... for some reason i couldnt hit yet all the shots were dead on. so i want to know if the bullets dissapear or if there is bullet drop or something cause it would be good to know before i use all my ammo

There is bullet drop and zeroing on the rifles so you probably missed :)

Bullets have no "max range."
But gravity does exist, and the bullets will drop over time.
Aim above your targets at long distances.

Bullet drop. Aim above at long ranges.

Also, what kind of weapon were you using?

I've hit zombies at 1000m, from the top of the buildings north of Balota airfield to behind the 3 loot barracks. Zero'd to 800m and about a half inch below the crosshairs. At that range though you almost need a spotter/range finder partner with binoculars if you think you are going to be able to hit players.

do the animations have a max range? i ask because i was at the northwest airfield practicing the long scope on some Z's and at long ranges i never saw them fall over, but instead they just disappeared, and the ones which didn't i assume i missed.

They do them but at 800+ range they will seemingly just vanish after a couple seconds instead of you seeing the animation.
